    A Little Bit About Me

A little about me I have loved animals all my life! I have raised everything from Roly Poly bugs for my pet toad in grade school to ferrets and birds in High School and beyond. I took two years of Animal Production and Care at the Montgomery County JVC/Miami Valley CTC. I had planned to go to...

does anyone ever get used to killing and eating their birds

Quote: This is so well put, and it's exactly how I feel. Same here. When I did it first time, our extra rooster did help make it easier by being the one that always made sure he was 2 inches from my ear when he would crow at the top of his gamefowl lungs! When it came time to eat him we did...

    Processing Quail Pictures- WARNING Graphic!

I had to cull about 6 or 7 coturnix about a month ago mostly males and some females who were not good enough for breeding. I didn't think to knock them out. It would have made it go easier as a few freaked when the scissors were coming at them. I got good by the last one of sneaking up quickly...

40 Minute Hamburger Buns or Rolls

I made some of these today! The first batch wasn't raising right, so I looked at Yeast package. Expired! They tasted good but were dense. The one I had rolled into a really, really thin breadstick was crispy. Did the second batch and it was raising but a bit slow. Checked the yeast package...

I can't believe you guys really eat these things.

Quote: Sounds like what we did when we "dressed" our extras for dinner. We like them with mushrooms. I have to debone the legs too as my Hubby gets excited and forgets to eat around the bones and almost chokes. We don't raise enough right now to have some for eating, so we enjoy the eggs...

Why won't my button quails lay eggs?

Quote: I really think she will lay when she is ready. Buttons do take the Winter off from laying in the wild, so maybe she is waiting for spring? As in being adjusted up to 14 hours of light a day? It is worth a try.

Quote: I am sorry! I just was saying Hi! Back! Hi! to you too! Is there any button questions you still needed answers too? I am happy to help and if I don't know the answer I will look it up in my Button Books for you! Becky

    Good...erm, "lap" quail?

I have had a few coturnix that liked to be held and sleep on us. My son had one hen that was his very own and she would follow him around. She even laid an egg in his hand one day. I have a brown that tries to come out of the cage so I can hold her when she is in the mood to be held.

Why won't my button quails lay eggs?

My Buttons are inside in my Living Room and they lay all year due to the lights being on so much. Make sure they are in pairs, have enough light, and are getting enough protein and you should start seeing eggs. It will happen when she is ready and conditions are right.

Lawnmower vs Rooster GRAPHIC PICS/ Saying Goodbye

I am so sorry to hear he is gone! I believe he is waiting for you in Heaven! And I can't wait to meet you both there when our time is up here on Earth. We can all have some corn on the cob together. You did the best for him and please keep your chin up!

Lawnmower vs Rooster GRAPHIC PICS/ Saying Goodbye

Quote: I don't know if you've been reading this whole post, and obviously, you are entitled to your opinions... however. This bird doesn't actually belong to the girl that is caring for him. She took over his care for an elderly neighbor. On top of that, he's been given a pretty good chance at...

Lawnmower vs Rooster GRAPHIC PICS/ Saying Goodbye

Quote: She can't, first off she promised the next door neighbor she won't. Second I don't think he has feeling in most of what you think should be hurting him. The Vet cut off some nerves that was dead. I had a Chinese Blue Breasted Quail that lost half a leg and after it healed over she...
