Trader Joes & Other Grocery Store Egg Hatching Club - Are you a Member

Okay peeps, I noticed that about a year ago there were quite a few people getting eggs from the Redding, CA area. I'm curious how the hens are producing now that a year has passed, and which store had the best hatch rate? Winco, Trader Joe's? I'm in Yreka, CA and tried Raley's Rock Island eggs...

Just went out and checked them again with a headlamp while they were roosting. Checked around their vent area, which I hadn't done before, and found absolutely nothing. I don't give them many treats, just a soft apple or an ear of corn every now and then. They have been foraging in the garden...

I don't know what the heck is going on with a few of my girls. Two tan EE sisters in particular have been loosing feathers like mad, especially on and around their head. One started losing them about a week or two before the other one. I've checked them several times to see if I could find any...

Chicken waterer near miss! Went out to check for eggs this afternoon and was surprised at how quiet they were being. After checking for eggs, I watched them for a while and happened to notice that below their waterer (5 gallon bucket with three chicken nipples on the bottom) the sand was...

Thanks guys! I guess I just thought it was weird because both were laid in the same spot on the poop board. The nest boxes each have a plastic Easter egg filled with rocks to make them heavy.

Woo hoo! Got my first egg yesterday... laid on the poop board. Got a second egg today... laid on the poop board. They look like they weren't laid by the same hen, so any suggestions as to why they are laying on the poop board instead of the the very nice nest boxes seeded with fake eggs? Egg...

    First egg!!!

Congratulations! I just found our first egg yesterday. Found another one today that looks different than the first. So, I probably have two girls laying now. Only problem is that they are laying on the poop board, not in the lovely nests with the fake eggs in them. Any suggestions?

Wow! You guys have been busy! Hopefully everyone's chickies are doing okay with the heat. I have been driving East with my two little kids and my mother. Going to Memphis for my cousin's wedding on Saturday. We have made it to Vernal, UT so far. Love the hotel we are in (TownePlace Suites)...

Oh my gosh. Busy weekend for me. My (soon to be) four year old's birthday party was Saturday. Spent 8 hours pulling weeds and planting 48 thyme and 7 lavender plants in my front yard today. Just finished my margarita, and I think it is shower and Advil time! Hope everyone does okay in the...

That is Yreka for you. Trying to keep up with the other big cities yet never realizing they are headed in the wrong direction. So glad it actually passed and we can have them now!

Strangely enough hens AND roosters are legal in NYC. Plus, the top ten most populous cities in California also allow chickens. The things you discover while researching to convince your sleepy little rural agricultural town that it really is OKAY to have a few hens. Whether people actually keep...
