    Lockdown is tomorrow, the 19th, have a chick today. How do I proceed? Do I turn the eggs today? Maintain temp at 99.5? Can I remove the chick tonight to the brooder and continue with lock down? All advice is greatly appreciated as I did not find this one in the books.

    ?Incubating MAIL-ORDER eggs

    Expecting a dozen Swedish Flower egg to arrive tomorrow or Friday. The seller recommends letting the eggs sit small end down 'to settle" before placing in the incubator. Is this common practice and/or advisable?

    Does incubator temperature influence hen/rooster development?

    Read somewhere maintaining the temperature one degree higher than called for hens develop/hatch, one degree lower roosters develop/hatch (or was it the other way around?). Theory being the change in temperature supports the particular development of that sex. Anyone heard of or tried this?

    Chasing one guinea over and over again...

    Must be something in the air, same thing happened with my flock yesterday. 30-5 month old guineas, together since day one, started chasing one male, not the runt, everytime he steps out of the house. He is eating, drinking, no sign of injury or illness. Any ideas why?

    Questions: Keets???

    I have 30 keets, about a month old. When are these little critters considered full feathered? Currently they are inside, would like to move them to their permanent coop but will not be able to have a heat lamp out there, temps at night are ranging in the low to mid 60's, can they tolerate that?

    Strange beak????

    Thanks for all the help. She is one of ours, hatched by a year old buff. Half Pint, she was on the small size when she hatched, is a sweet girl:). We will keep the feeder and water full.

    How do you cull a chick?

    Engine starter (ether), sprayed on a cotton ball, placed over the nares. It is instant and painless, if it must be done.

    Momma was in with other girls but I placed eggs from different hens I wanted hatched under her over two days period. None were added after that by the girls.
