What are these 2 hens doing?

I think the other one is also going broody. I saw that she plucked her chest feathers

What are these 2 hens doing?

I have one broody chicken(the brown one) that sits on her eggs. Whenever she’s off of her nest, another hen (the grey one) starts to sit on them too but this one doesn’t seem broody and is just sitting on them and turning the eggs like normal broody hen would. I don’t know whether they’re...

Do I need a heat lamp for hot weather?

So I just bought some chicks and the temperature outside is like over 90 degrees and at night is in the late 70s. The chickens are gonna stay in the back porch area and they are completely secured. Do I need a heat lamp still?

    What breed is this chicken?

I think your right, I searched up what they look like and it looks a lot like the one I have. I think it’s also a bielefelder.

    What breed is this chicken?

I have 4 chickens and I can identify the breeds of 3 of them but this one I have no idea what breed they are. I’m guessing it could be some kind of Easter egger but I’m still confused on what type of breed this chicken is. They are also about 3 months old. Does anyone know?

Where should my baby chicks be at?

I wish I could do that but I share a room with one of my sisters and she doesn’t want them in her room. I wouldn’t mind it though.

Where should my baby chicks be at?

I live in the state of Texas. All my concerns are on the temperature and predators that can fly like owls or something. I also probably need a bigger brooder and hope that what I have set up right now is temporary. I should talk about this with my parents. I need to see if my parents can buy...

Where should my baby chicks be at?

I would like to put them in one of the old coops I have but there’s no outlet to plug the heat lamp in and they’re not as high elevated as the porch is. And maybe the porch may be like a chicken coop itself. And also, the porch is the only outdoor place with an outlet and it’s connected to the...

Where should my baby chicks be at?

I haven’t seen any weasels, opossums, or any kind of rats anywhere actually. And any nearby dog would not be able to jump high enough. Any nearby cats are too afraid to approach the porch and my family has pet cats too but our cats are afraid of the chicks. All I’m concerned about is the...

Where should my baby chicks be at?

The area may be like a patio on a high elevated place. So it may be more enclosed than a porch.

Where should my baby chicks be at?

I live out in the country, but the nearest big town is about more than 30 minutes away from me. I can put the chicks in the house if I can. I’ll see if I can do it right now.

Where should my baby chicks be at?

It’s almost enclosed and on a very high area. And the fences are very tall, the fences are more like walls instead because the material is just plain wood and there’s nothing to grab onto on the wooden walls so it would be a bit difficult for any predators to climb up unless if they can fly or...

Where should my baby chicks be at?

The bucket is rectangular and the heat lamp is south of the bucket in this photo. But with the bedding, all I have is puppy pads but I don’t know what else I could use for bedding without buying pine shavings. I think I should rise the lamp up a bit more but they’re still ok. And also the back...

Where should my baby chicks be at?

Well, the porch does have a roof already but I’ll probably cover the bucket with something if necessary. And the heat lamp is on one side and is about more than a foot above the chicks. And the bulb is a 250 watt and has red light.

Where should my baby chicks be at?

I think it may be since it has a gate and the fences are like walls but you can still see the outside. So the back porch may be a bit secure. And I haven’t seen any predators get there. But just as long as the gate is closed, then probably no predators will get in.
