That's the plan. Plus what's the point of having a remote control door if we have to go out and close the windows anyway.
The logs in the soffits are temporary also. I am going to take your advice about keeping them open. Probably going to go with heavier wire but I'm looking at another option.
It Is temporary. I got a few feet of it for free from a neighbor. Mainly to keep them from pecking the screen and window from the inside for now. It is on my list short list of eventual upgrades. I plan on taking apart a used dog kennel and mounting the panels. We are good at closing and...
It's the slowest I could find at 5.7mm/s. Takes almost 45 seconds to open or close. I don't have the hardware yet but my next version will have safety measures in place. Yes we have a clear line of sight.
Off Grid Log Coop?
Welp, officially gone overboard. Remote control door? Why not? Of course I'll need a battery and a way to keep it charged. I planned on having a battery and solar panel to power 12v heat tape to keep the water from freezing so in my defense the power was going to be there...
After a long day of working on the coop we moved the ladies in today. The doors I had before were temporary. The last pictures of the feed and water mounted were to see how it fit. I modified the hangers so the water and feeder can be easily taken off the doors. I couldn't get out to buy lumber...
If I had to do it over I would have done a few things different. I hope to sit down someday, draw it out and create plans with some improvements.
There was a reason they were on sale. For the most part the timbers were fairly consistent but I had to pick through a lot of them. I bought 50 and I...
I'm going to keep the cap about half screwed in. The threads aren't very tight in those.
I'll probably make another one and switch them out once or twice a day depending on how cold it is.
I researched a panel heater that I could mount on the door behind it but I really don't want to run power...
Thank you. I've almost biten off more than I can chew. In my head everything was a lot easier. The main part of it wasn't bad. It's all the little things to "button it up" that have been tedious.
I wanted to keep the inside as open as possible so I liked the PVC watering and feeder options. I...
A couple update pics. Work and weather have slowed my progress. Hope to get them in mid week. The grey is chinking mortar I'll need to go back and clean off the extra. The PVC feed and water containers are removable. I added logs offset in the soffits about an inch for ventilation. The gable...
Right now its completely open. I will be adding logs between the trusses which will continue the wall to the roof but with spacers so as to vent into the soffit. The roof peak has about an inch gap and the ridge cap is open at the ends.
Edit: I see you are from SW Michigan too. It stood strong...
I planned on doing the Daisy style I saw on here and other sites. But I've always wanted to do a log playhouse or small shed with landscape timbers. While pricing material for the Daisy Coop I saw my local Lowe's had 8' landscape timbers on sale for $2.50 ea. (Normally $4.30ish) so I decided to...
Hello,
We are new to chickens this spring. We adopted 8 Easter Eggers about 2 1/2 weeks ago. Always wanted chickens but didn't have the time to raise chicks. This year, with the extra time, we decided to go for it. We have three children 8, 5 and 3. Or three year old daughter is all about them...
