    Silkie with enlarged nostril

My bearded silkie is almost 7. She had a hard growth on her beak that recently was getting larger. I went out to take a picture to post, and it has fallen off! Her beak now has a hole that may be infected. (See photos). Is this a hole? Her nostril? If yes - it is much larger than the one on...

Two hens with water coming out of beaks and diarrhea

Thanks for your help. I have a bottle of Wazine, and it's active ingredient is Piperazine. I have used this once in the past as a wormer. Is this the same as the drug you mentioned - or different? Sorry for all the questions! Lisa

Two hens with water coming out of beaks and diarrhea

On Thursday one of my Silver Laced Wyandottes, age 2, usually healthy, was moving slowly, had a larger crop than usual and water coming out of her beak. She also had diarrhea. I would describe it as throwing up water, not a lot and not all the time, but still odd head movement followed by the...

White long worms in poo - do I need to move chicks from mom?

I have never dewormed my chickens. I have 7 (and now the new six). Since I have been cleaning the box the new chicks/hen is in - I have not noticed the worms until this morning. I will check out the site and see if there is anything I can do for the chicks.

White long worms in poo - do I need to move chicks from mom?

I have week old chicks (6) in with a hen that has adopted them. All look well (chicks and hen). Hen just pooed - and white worms came out. Do I need to move her from the chicks? Is it ok to treat with a dewormer - or are the chicks too young for treatment? I have been keeping the area really...

Not laying, very swolen, trouble walking

Just back from the vet - Ramona has "egg yolk peritonitis". The vet drained most of the fluid from her abdomen, and started her on antibiotics for 7 days. She is back in the coop resting with the other girls. Thanks for all your advice. Will keep you posted on her recovery!

Not laying, very swolen, trouble walking

I have a 4 year old plymouth rock that stopped laying a while ago. For the last few days she has been swelling (lower abdomen/vent area) and getting lower and lower to the ground. She is now having trouble walking (again seems to be getting lower to the ground with her swollen stomach). She is...

Help - day 2 of very badly shaped eggs

Appreciate any help - my first post. I have several chickens that lay brown eggs - one a Rhode Island Red (5 yrs) and 2 Barred Rocks (2.5 years). This is the second day that one of them has had trouble laying, and the result is a very deformed egg. She is leaving these in the nesting box. No...
