    Wellsummer? Light brown leghorn? Neither?

Well we kind of assumed he is not the species, but rather a chicken breed lookin much like it. He has been handled extensively since a few days old, so he isn't wild, for sure. But he really does like getting up higher than any bird we've had before (see photo of him 2 feet from the end of our...

    Wellsummer? Light brown leghorn? Neither?

So here he is! Yes, a roo. We think he's proven himself to be a red jungle fowl, based on his colors, including the legs, his tail shape, and his truncated crowing (Cock-a-doo!) OR, of course he may be a mix. Whatever the case, he's really sweet so far (hope that doesn't change), & of course...

    Wellsummer? Light brown leghorn? Neither?

So what you're all telling me is, my chick is a mutt? ;-) That seems appropriate, as I'm a bit of a mutt myself: Irish, English, German, Swedish ancestry. lol

    Buff Orpington?

I bought them from a local place called Prianti Farms here on Long Island, New York. The manager didn't know too much information about the chicks in specific. He gets them from his uncle, who apparently breeds them; but he didn't even know what kind of chick was what in the mixed batch of all...

    Wellsummer? Light brown leghorn? Neither?

pretty sure the legs were blue from the get go. My wife was guessing mixed breed too. Thanks for the feedback!

    Wellsummer? Light brown leghorn? Neither?

That looks like this little one a week or so ago, with the exception that ours has blue legs.

    Wellsummer? Light brown leghorn? Neither?

Fortunately the seller assured us he'd gladly take any back who turned out to be roosters. We're already attached, but we bore this in mind. Sorry you had to rehome yours. Thanks for the feedback.

    Buff Orpington?

We got this little blue legged sweetheart from a mixed batch of many breeds. We dont know exactly how many weeks old she is. We're thinking buff Orpington. What do you think, folks?

    Wellsummer? Light brown leghorn? Neither?

Adding this photo to help with the roo (?) predictions. The blue legs really have us confused too. Just can't find a good solid match for this bird online.

    Wellsummer? Light brown leghorn? Neither?

... and while I'm at it, is all hope lost that it's not a roo? The best I can say is that (s)he is a few weeks old. We got this one and 2 others from a batch that included a wide variety of breeds. In the linked video, the one in question is the little one in the foreground. The other, we're...

Star-like eye deformity: Tumor? (See photo)

Update: The jury is still out, months later. Cataracts seems likely, given the way it looks now. It no longer appears as a star-like growth in the eye, and it has progressed. I'm not sure how much she can see but "barely" would seem to be the most accurate description. I have to physically take...

Star-like eye deformity: Tumor? (See photo)

Hm. My wife suggested the same thing. I can't seem to find any online images of chicken cataract that matches what I see on her, but then again there are a number of very different looking manifestations of it. I'd say that's certainly a possibilty. Now to do some research on cataracts. Thanks...
