    Mysterious “Fairy Eggs”?!?

Hi @ANiceKaren is this hen still laying fairy eggs? I had a hen who started laying fairy eggs a few months after she had been laying normal eggs. She laid them for months before going into her first moult. After her moult, she laid normal eggs for a while and then went back to laying only fairy...

    Copper Sulfate for treating bumblefoot?

Hi @Fluffy_Feathers did this work? I read about copper sulfate being used for foot rot in cattle and wondered if it would work on bumblefoot and I stumbled upon your thread. An update would be great for others who are trying to avoid surgical removal.

    Sprain vs. fracture

The advice given to me was that if it was a fracture, I'd physically be able to see a break in the foot. I was also asked to check under the foot properly to make sure that he didn't have bumblefoot.

    Sprain vs. fracture

Hi there, it turns out that my boy had a sprain. He was up and walking again within the week, but the swelling did worsen substantially before it got better. I didn't do much to help other than try (and not succeed at) immobilizing him for a few days, giving him aspirin and applying arnica gel...

    Hen with chicks laying eggs

Hi @ackie those chicks look old (I'm guessing around 6 weeks) and independent, they wouldn't need their mum anymore so she should start laying now if she moulted and come out of it. I can't determine whether she is in moult or if the dog pulled out her feathers.

    Injured foot

@Eggcessive would a sprain heal if he keeps using the foot like this? I tried isolating him again this morning but he made a scene, kept pacing and calling one of the hens, I had to let him out to prevent him hurting himself further.

    Injured foot

Hello @Eggcessive thank you for your response! He is limping but also putting weight on the foot. He does hold the foot up but he also walks on it at times and scratches his face with it. He insists on roosting and not sleeping on a flat surface so the foot is taking a strain. Do you...

    Injured foot

Hi guys. My roo fell off the roost about 2 weeks ago, he's been limping ever since. At the beginning his foot looked fine (see photo for reference) but between yesterday and today it has swollen substantially. He stayed in isolation for 3 days and started pacing and becoming uneasy so I let him...

    Sprain vs. fracture

He isn't trying to walk at all, I have him in a small pen, he's just shuffling his way about, barely getting up at all. When he hopped away to hide from the other chickens this morning, he held the injured foot up, curling his toes and tried to balance using his wing. He's 7 months old. A...

    Sprain vs. fracture

Hi guys, how would I know whether my chicken has a sprained leg or a fracture? My roo was startled and fell off the roost this morning. He hopped to a corner and didn't move. I picked him up to check if there's a break on the leg that I can see, but the leg is not visibly broken. Could it...

Long term effects of Fowl Pox

Has anyone ever noticed any long term effects of Fowl Pox? Things that continued happening months after a hen recovered from pox. One of my production hens had pox last year. She continued laying while she was ill, but she stopped laying about a month after she recovered. She now lays a...

    Carnation comb or side sprigs?

Thank you so much for your response. This photo was taken 2 weeks ago, he was 9 weeks old at the time, he looks slightly different now. He has less black on his hackle feathers, some saddle feathers have grown in and the white tipped feathers are no longer present, however, most of the feathers...

    Carnation comb or side sprigs?

Hi guys, is this a carnation comb or side sprigs? It's in a barnyard mix cockerel, so unfortunately I do not know the possible breeds in the lineage.
