I have 6 unwanted cockerels of a cross between a barred rock rooster and a silver laced wyandotte hen. I don't really want to eat them because I don't know how to kill them, clean the meat, all that stuff. I've done some research, but I am afraid that I will just make them suffer and then not...
Sorry this is so late but it has been a busy day. UPDATE: She layed an egg early this morning and has been able to walk around a bit. She is separated from the rest of the flock because I don't want them to peck her to death. When she stands on her legs for awhile, her legs and butt start to...
I recently found a chicken tonight and she could not walk and had slightly labored breathing. Her feet and legs were blue. She is drinking water, but I am worried that it is marek's disease. I have seperated her from the rest of the flock. Is there any way that I can save her? Or at least make...
I just found one of my about 21 week old BOs dead in the run. No predator attack. I checked her body and there are no bite marks. I just recently cleaned everything, so I have no idea what it could be. I checked her vent and it was covered in poop and maggots??? Not sure what they were but it...
Ok I need help from y'all. One of my chickens has been experiencing pasty butt, and I have been clearing it off and I put ACV in the water and raised the light to lower the temp. After I cleaned it off for the third time, I realized that it looks like his vent was poking out. It was pulsing and...
Congrats everyone on the hatches. I do have one question. I ordered 10 Buff Orps, but they won't ship until the 22nd. Will they be okay to add to my chicks that hatched for New Years? The NYD ones will be 3 weeks. I'm just worried about the pecking order.
They will be days old, but they will be three weeks younger than the ones that I have now. Also the day olds that are being shipped will have the majority.
I just recently hatched 5 chicks from my own flock and they are a week old. I have also ordered a different breed of females, but they won't be in for another three weeks. Will this disrupt the pecking order and will it be safe for the new ones? What do I need to do to get them to know each...
I waited until all of the birds that have hatched are dry. If you have other eggs in their that have pipped, leave the chicks because you don't want to lose humidity. The chicks can last three days on their egg yolk.
I have three chicks running around in the incubator. It is so cool, but I am worried about them hurting the other eggs that have pipped but haven't hatched yet. Do I take the ones out, or just leave them?
