Two of my hens have the exact same feather lose on their back minus the sore. I don't have a roaster but I think when they are roosting they must pick them out or others do it to them. However I've never seen any of my hens picking on these 2 birds. They're starting to get some pin...
Help please? One of my PR hens is limping. She started limping once when she was about 2 months old. Over time she got better. Then about a 2 or 3 weeks ago she started limping slightly again and seem to be doing better. Today she is limping worse then ever. And favors that left leg. I...

Yes they have been free ranging together since the babies were two weeks old. And they know their place with the older hens. But they won't get too close to them.
I have 4 one year old hens. Had 7 but a dog killed 3 of them back in April. I purchased 4 one day old chicks and now they are 16 weeks old. They are keep in two separate coops. The young ones coop is one of those "Chickens in a Hutch" and they are now out growing it. The are intimidated...
I'm not sure what salt does for bad behavior. I wouldn't be able to wait three weeks to see what the outcome was. My question is do they ever free range? Close quarters and hot boring days will make them more agitated and aggressive. If not, then can you let them out once a day for a least...
My red star (sex link) has been laying since Nov. 09 and has always produce supper giant large eggs. They look like duck eggs really. I feel so sorry for her because about 5 times a week she gets egg bound. She is my favorite and most friendly of them all. I've given them olive oil in the...
Mathew,
So sorry to hear about your lose. It's not easy and it will take some time to heal. You situation is indeed unusual. What I have read from your post is that express mail in your area takes 2-3 days. That is much too long. They may survive without food for that long but not without...

All the previous post are completely correct. However, a possible reason she my seem be slowing down a bit, is becauseof the weather. It's warmer and they do like to lay down to keep cool.
They usually peck at night and in the morning before you let them out. Most times she can escape them while free ranging. If you think they stopped picking on her then just keep a eye out for any abuse for the others. If you think see is being overly abused, then I would separate her...
I lost 2 hens around Easter by my friends dog. Details aren't important now. A third survived but her back was badly ripped apart just as your's was. I put (poured ) hydrogen peroxide on the wound for three days. This helped to dry up the wound and stopped the raw flesh from being exposed ...
