I DO have 5 light brahmas about 5 mos old but I have no idea yet who is a hen or a roo. You're welcome to those for a fair price but only if you came here. They are BIG! and...

asst cochin bantam chicks NY/Pa border

Hey Folks, been a while. Long hard winter here in the hollow. My silly bantam hens, 4 of em, started hoarding eggs and went broody on me. Never in my wildest dreams did I think they'd actually hatch! I thot this would be a good first time dry run. Well I brought my one hen in the house with...

Covering my A-frame run for winter. Any suggestions?

I use nice slick blue tarps. The snow slides right off. If it ices you can hit it with a stick to break it. I use my tarps in summer too for shade and rain. Inexpensive and effective. Our snow will be along soon too. Got the wee house done already with sand bottom and tarps. Next will be...

Hatching - Day by Day - Chat thread!

My final hatch of the year. Nice broody hen hatched some guineas. Egg purchasing is a 50/50 I've found myself. I think I'll look local next time, I do think shipping and time plays a roll and for the price ouch you hate to toss a dozen eggs. Now I am hoping as these mature my last guinea lady...

Easter Egger Broody Hen is the best

Momma Broody and her daughter are taking very good care of the guinea keets. It amazes me how even tho they are 2 different birds she knows what to do and they just do what guineas do! Very cool!

from the hatch cubby to the floor?

I did. I was worried. I had her with her peeps last spring. I had her in a covered dog crate. This time I have a nice rubbermaid dog house so I put it in there days ago so they'd be used to it. Then I bedded it with straw. I just finished moving the peeps to the house and her eggs and...

Easter Egger Broody Hen is the best

I bought a broody hen w/chicks this past spring. She recently went very broody so I slipped half the guinea eggs under her. Low and behold 2 in the incubator hatched over nite and are great! Went out to the hen house and all but 1 of hers have hatched! Good girl. Now I am wondering if I...

Questions about incubating Guinea Fowl Eggs!

Hi all, day 26 for my guinea eggs. I have a hen who has 13 and 9 in the incubator. Finger crossed for a great hatch. I keep thinking will the keets just use the hen as surrogate mom or just abandon her for being a guinea hehe. Thanks for all the great advice along the way .
