For you guys that are running misters, do your chickens not have shade? My set up is such that after 10:30 or so they are in full shade in their bunker. It’s really an open-air coop/run with a roost bar.
Question:
Once the hens have matured and started to lay, should I expect to see a reduction in the amount of feed they consume?
Because it seems like I don’t have to refill their feeders as often.
You guys were talking about 20% protein feed a few pages back.
is this what you were referring to?

I haven’t had an opportunity to butcher a chicken yet... I was secretly hoping for a rooster or two so that I could, but we ended up 13 for 13 hens.

No idea but I suspect one of the RIR (which are likely red sex links) as they have the most developed waddles/combs of the bunch. Working from home today, had the windows open and hoped I'd hear some commotion. But I just checked, another egg just like it was in there. Happened between 7:30 and...
And Bam! Just like that. 18 weeks +/- a few days.
First eggs for first time chicken farmers.
I have it on good authority that I can call myself a farmer now.
13... but I bought two leghorns this morning for a friend who teaches with my wife. She is gonna have them in her kindergarten class for a few weeks (until they’re feathered if I can convince her). So I may be up to 15 by the end of April.
