OK--So today I got an egg that is actually wrinkled. It is hard all over and the wrinkles themselves are hard but it is super weird. Any ideas about why it happened? I have had chickens for about 1 1/2 years and never gotten any like this. So curious!
I think the eggs have been under her for almost 3 weeks but we were at the beach so I can't be absolutely sure. I will send my daughter out there tomorrow and see if she can hear any sounds from the eggs. The hens let her do anything!
Yes--there are two separate hens on two separate clutches! We are new to the hatching thing so I hope that is going to be ok. What about starter feed? Should I just feed it to all the chickens? I do supplement with household scraps. Thanks for all your help!
I have 2 hens sitting on clutches of eggs. They should be hatching very soon and I don't know what to do then. Can I just leave them in the very large coop with 2 other hens & 1 rooster? If I take the chicks out, can I only take 1 hen with them? My "holding pen" is pretty small. If I do...
I have a hen that is less than a year old that has been sitting in the nesting box constantly for about 2-3 days. Of course, she may have moved but I have not seen it and I have been checking frequently. What is wrong? Could she be egg-bound? I have heard of that but don't really know...
I completely understand about having the chickens as pets but I think you need to find him a new home. I have seen more aggression today and am doing that very thing tomorrow. The box is ready to go and my husband will put him in tonight when he is roosting and calm. When someone mentioned...
Again--thanks. He is being naughty again today with my daughter. I'm taking him to the local feed store. They will give him away---and they are good about not giving him to anyone who will fight them. THanks for everything ya'll!
Thanks for all the great input! I have been watching the rooster for a few days and think the thing that must have set him off is this----he just loves one of the hens (the only one I can tell that is laying) and my daughter (who loves the hen, too) was riding around with the hen in the basket...
One of my roosters (who has always been friendly) started attacking my daughter today (twice!). What is the problem? What should I do to make him stop?
Thanks!
