    Do they need grit if they go outside?

    We have some 5-6 week old chicks. Almost fully feathered and we are finally having some warme weather so I'm going to put them outside for the day. If they have access to bugs and grass should they also have access to grit?

    Goopy eye on one of my chicks. Why?

    I got some 2 day old chicks on Sunday. Today I noticed one has goopy stuff on her eye and she having trouble opening it. Like human pink eye almost. I used a warm wet rag and gently wiped it clean. Is there anything I can put on it? Like an ointment or anything?

    Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I'll talk to my husband about putting a roof over the run. I went out yesterday and stirred up the ground with a pitchfork and it is much better today. maybe I just need to do that every so often.     We are also having an issue with the hens laying eggs underneath the coop, I recently found a nest of about 15 eggs under there and I'm not sure how I'm going o get them out, because I can't fit under there. so maybe they are rotting and that is the awful smell?     I bought these and was told they were silkies, but the farm had them labeled as "bantams" which I know silkies are bantams, but there is more than one type of bantam right? Silkies shouldn't be getting any normal feathers I thought. Any one?
