I want some java's but I wanted them before we got chickens.
I got a bared rock that is very noisy and I guess I won't be getting any more of them after talking with some people. I guess it is just common with that breed. mine will be eating and scratching around and bokking super loud at...
Cool I picked up a couple hostas last night. :) between those and the ferns I think it will be planted well enough. I am going to look for some other stuff that comes up randomly during the year to fill in the blank spaces.
well just bumping this up too see if there is any more interest. I have started putting in the ferns but still am looking for something to grow that will provide some thing for them to eat, it doesn't have to be a fruiting plant or nut bearing plant, maybe one that produces seeds each year, or...
Depending on how many you are looking to get its super easy.
Get three bins. (this depends on the amount you want to produce.)
Get some meal worms.
Put some wheat bran in all three bins.
Put the meal worms in one of those bins.
Let them grow, they will turn into these white alien looking...
Maybe the heat? Our birds slow down during the coldest and hottest times of the year. This is just a guess but maybe the sudden rise in temps got them off the lay for a bit. This isn't really helpful but if I was you guys I would just wait and see assuming I didn't notice anything that told...
Just an update to this. The one that lived ended up getting bigger and started laying eggs, acts normal and is just a normal chicken, although still our smallest chicken.
Everything seems to be great for her now and there doesn't seem to be any lasting signs of what ever was going on with...
What is the weather like there?
Anything new that might be scaring the whole flock?
What do you feed, how often is that feed given?
When was the last egg laid?
Anything change since then?
Possible sickness?
I am in growing zone 8B,(As noted in the first post.) but really just any list of plants would be fine, I can pick through and figure out the ones that work in my area once I have created or gotten a list of plants.
I live in medford, Oregon. If you are not from Oregon you probably think of...
Yeah right now it is just plain dirt, no plants, so any water just floods the area. I just need to plant some stuff over there but I don't know what to plant. the chickens don't ruin anything else in the yard just pick around and eat what falls.
The water falls hard but for short periods...
I am looking for plants you can grow in 90% to 100% shade. To be clear not ones to produce shade but ones that can live in shade.
What I am having trouble with is most of my backyard and a large section of my side yard is total shade. I grow stuff mainly for the chickens and to prevent...
haha well that would be cute. I would have to go pick up another two chicks though. Well they seem happy and healthy in every other way. They loved the eggs. I dunno I guess I will keep you all posted. let me know if you think of something I could be doing to cause this.
Yes we give them grit, it is very small food, "crumbles" and I havn't done it recently but did give them vitamin drops when we fist got them for about 3 weeks.
Hello I have two baby chicks we got in september 10th and they are still baby'ish.
This is what they looked like on november 16th. 10 weeks old.
They are barred rock pullets. Seems like I should have more chicken like birds at this point?
Our last two seemed to grow faster but maybe that...
So one of my chickens has a runny nose, I just noticed it today, and wondered if this is normal for birds in cold whether, too be fair I have a runny nose right now too, but no cold its just cold out.
She seems to be fine otherwise, it gets down in the 20's at night sometimes around here but...
