    Breeding Rhode Island Blue Roo

Has anyone bred a Rhode Island Blue Roo back to straight Rhode Island Red? What do you typically see color wise? If I am correct the RIB comes from a RIR bred with an Australorp which throws RIBlue, RIR, or RIBlack??? I am a novice and the dominant genetics throw me. Any help is appreciated...

    IMPACTED CROP question

We actually use cola down blocked feeding tubes in children. Also meat tenderizer in water and pancrease are other options. It is better than surgery or replacing a tube. Pretty sure cola won’t kill a chicken in small amounts. They eat all sorts of nasty stuff off the ground.

    What is your Dog's name?

I have always had female dogs. I am partial to "JASPER" as a male dog name though. :)

    Bumblefoot?

Hi just catching up on this situation. I feel like if there is a hole from removing the infectious “plug”, that maybe packing the wound and doing wet to dry dressing changes to debride old stuff —till healthy fills in. You pack with moist, then it dries and when you pull dry dressing off, dead...

Chicken attacked by flock during night

An addition shouldn't be as costly as starting over with a new coop. Any way to add space to existing structure. It does look tight in there. There is no way my 5 large fowl Orpingtons would fit in there comfortably. Good luck. LMS

    Mystery Infestation

Can chickens get pin worm? This is a human worm that wiggles around by the rectum and its entire life is within the bowel tract Sounds very similar. I don't know what fly strike is. Have to read up on it. I am learning sooo much from this site. LMS

12 Week Old Chick--not developing at same rate, and unable to walk for last 7-10 days

I had a chick that I hatched this summer that at approx 6 weeks of age began with leg weakness. He would walk a few steps and sit. He ate well, no change in poop....nothing but lower extremity weakness that progressed to where he mostly just sat. This slowly progressed over 3 weeks and I...

    Roosters Pros and Cons

OK--thanks everyone for all the responses on too many roos. I wasn't taking into account that they are still juveniles. I'm sure things will get a little more "hairy" as they get older and compete. So, if I have 5 hens, I need to keep just one roo. Or get a few more hens and keep 2 roos...

    Roosters Pros and Cons

I am just seeing this thread and haven't read all 16 some pages. I unfortunately have hatched out 5 roos and one hen. They are 10 weeks old and getting along fine. Do roos have a pecking order like hens, or do they beat and bloody each other till survival of the fittest? I will be adding some...

Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

If birds are free ranging, getting vegetables, and feed.....is it necessary to add all this extra stuff? I feel overwhelmed sometimes. I just want to be a simple chicken farmer, or as my husband calls me "Crazy chicken lady." Hey, also whoever spoke of regular feed and adding calcium/oyster...

Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

BBS Orpington and SS OK, here is the proof. I have to learn how to do this picture thing. My son had to help me. I am showing one of each variety. I think the gray/ lavender is the splash orpington, the gray is the blue and the black is black. Only one I am sure of is the SS in front is...
