I had a bunch of PVC connectors in our garage still in a sealed bag, went and bought the pipes for HomeDepot (in hindsight I should have used conduit, but PVC it is.)
1" side rails, 3\4" arches ... Totals are 8' long, 6' wide, 4' tall
I will mount the 1" pipes to my wooden base usung conduit...
Thanks for the replies.
They are not the same kind of neighbor as someone on the same street as us, their house is very close, but there are no roads or paths to get there quickly. My dog could get there in 20 seconds or less, but it would take me around 3 minutes to drive around to their...
Got a wonderful notice on my door from our local 'Animal Control', someone gave a description of my dog and said he killed a few of their chickens. I thought that can't be, my dog is in the back yard right now. I went outside and looked at our fence... and sure enough darn dog broke through the...
I always suggest to at least look into doing a French drain. They're great if you don't like having an open ditch in your yard.
Here's a video example:
That's much better than I could do with sketchup, I got frustrated quick (I can draw by hand much easier than learn 3D programs).
Much of what I've read here says, if your chickens are in the coop just during the night and let out early in the morning, the majority of poop (+\\- 80%) will be on...
As joe pesci once said: "It's all about the dollars." ...
At justin<dot>tv there is a web-stream of chickens (user name: vasalini), might try asking there.... The name of the stream is: "Daily life with a flock of chickens in HD"
What you really need is to know the upload strength of your...
Not finished yet, but I'm using some old dresser drawers that were thrown out. I'm gluing (liquid nails) 1" support boards inside all the edges\\corners. Two hens should be able to use it at once with plenty of space.
Interesting,
You could put an AC adapter plug into one of the sockets of a motion sensor light and it could turn on both a radio and a light at the same time.
Not sure how long that would scare off a 'smart' critter, but it might be worth a shot.
Most of what I've read and seen shows a 12"x12" pop door is fine unless you'll have big birds like Jersey Giants .. (I'm making my pop door a little taller just for extra headroom.)
I can't remember where I saw it, but some people just have a fenced area with protection from strong wind, rain and predators (which you already have most of that covered, if it's under a deck), then just have:
Their food and water, a couple of roosts (boards or branches) they can get up on and...
I'm still in the building phase, but
(Design it to use standard material sizes)
If a simple 6' x 8' lean-roof is just right, don't get the measurements wrong and end up with a 6'-4'' x 8'-3" roof frame... have to take it off and cut them back.
Thanks,
I also meant to add: I would\\could use small pieces of that flooring stuff (can't spell it right now )
The hard part could be holding them in place under my roosts... or I could just put them on the litter underneath the roost.
Great Job.
LALASD4: if two of the bowls are used and one was cut to fit around the top it could be turned upside down and slid down over the food at night. With some extra weight it might hold out the rats.
Found some bread trays being thrown out and hope to be able to use them for a droppings\\poop board or something......?
They are over 2ft. long and over a foot wide. Figure I could put newspaper on top of them to catch the poop.
Nice!
I would agree with more ventilation, the tarp will not only protect from rain and sun, it will block quite a bit of breeze from making it to your vents. But it all depends on your location.
