about 5' per hen in the coop (including nest box) plus 20' per hen in the pen - all covered and enclosed due to rain and preditors (including my sweet dog).
5 down, 2 to go. My 26 wk old EE finally joined the "laying game". She had been going in the nest box for over a month. Standing there, looking under herself . Finally started squatting 2 weeks ago. I have now gotten 3 medium green eggs, every other day! Now I just have the 2 speckled...
It took a long time and for a while, it seemed like she had just given up, but I kept massaging it and trying to get her to eat anything with oil. She was so thin that It was just bones and feathers, but she pulled through . She has been eating more and has gained most of the weight back...

It was my understanding that it was better to add light in the morning so that it comes on about 12 hours before sunSET. Then the timer turns it off at sunRISE. Then they go to bed as it starts getting dark naturally and don't get caught milling around when the light goes off and leaves them...
I suspect that the pullet in question was probably laughing at her and made some inappropriate comment. This pullet was being taught the meaning of the phrase "madder than a wet hen".
I don't eat any that don't have a solid shell, I just scramble them for the dogs or chickens for fear of bacteria that the shell would keep out. But no cause for concern, just a first time "error"
