The laws on caged hens welfare changes here next year. Regular cages are going to be banned and "enriched" cages will become necessary which include perches and nest boxes. However, most of our supermarkets are making the move to only sell free-range eggs anyway. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/ years.html
same thing going to happen in the U.S.
Absolutely not and that includes any other kind of factory farmed meat, I live in rural Wisconsin and there are real butcher shops that sell locally produced products so it's pretty easy to eat good.
That's the thing with meat, it's not as clearly labelled so I don't know what's what.
I don't like pork, but I have absolutely no idea where my lamb and beef actually comes from. it's not like home brand does any labelling on their products.
I don't plan to eat cage eggs again either. We have friends who have many free range chickens and they sell eggs so I know if I run short for whatever reason I can just buy some from them. We are outlaws and have 1 chicken more than we are legally allowed so they would get our spare laying hen if we get busted and have to get legal at some point in the future.
