Is it necessary to put gravel down prior to laying the sand down? I'm in Souther Ca. and my ground is very firm (clay/rock) and does not mudd up very easily, and my coop has decent slope away from it?
I was not planning on incorporating the gardens into the coop, and my carpentry skills probably would not allow me at this point what size nest boxes would be recommended, and better off with two larger boxes or 3 fair sized? Thanks for the kind comments, just got the roof finished.
Started my new project Sunday, I have a new respect for all of the Super Coops I have researched on the site. The run will be 4x8ft (plus 4x4 underneath coop) and the coop will be an additional 4x4ft. I built them seperatley so I could move them around in the future. This is my first attempt...
I also live in so. Cal and just started building my second coop today. I live on a canyon and have alot of predators so my plan is to hard ware cloth the entire coop and run. I have done that with my first little coop and no issues other than they need more space now. I will hopefully figure...
After purchasing a undersized coop I am going to start building the new one tomorrow. I plan on having the run 8ft x 4ft, and the coop an additional 4ft x 4ft. I also wanted a reccomendation on how large to make the nesting boxes for heavies? I have not made a cut yet so any input would be...
Thanks for all the input, they are only 3 months old so I should have time for them to live in the current coop while I build the new one. Now I have to pick a coop style that is suitable for my climate and get building. Any pictures of coops that would do well in a southern california climate...

This is my current coop, I'm having trouble posting a picture so hopefully the link will work. I'm thinking its too small for 3 orphs? or do you think it is...
After purchasing a coop on ebay I feel its only right to make a more sturdy and user friendly structure for my 3 orphs. Wanted any input/pics on what design would be best for San Diego weather. Thanks in advance...
I actually have the same coop, and am in the process of building a larger one. I dont feel that it has enough room for my 3 orphs so I'm going to bite the bullet and build on also. I will post pics once it is finalized.
