    Post your FIRST EGG pics!

One of my Easter Eggers layed her first egg today at 25 weeks old! I was so ready to be disappointed about not having a green egg layer, and now totally elated that the kids will have GREEN eggs and ham after all! Opening the nest box is like Christmas almost every day!

    Post your FIRST EGG pics!

Our four chickens are now 24 wks old. We were so excited to get our first egg today!! We think it may have come from one of our easter eggers based on the feathers in the nesting box and squatting behavior. Alas, it's not blue or green, but it is an egg none the less and it was DELICIOUS...

    14 wk EE gender?

Yeah! Thanks everyone! The tail feathers are much longer than my other EE's so I had no idea. I'm such a beginner at all this. I Love this forum!!! Now just crossing my fingers for some pretty eggs soon. My son is dying for some real green eggs and ham!

    14 wk EE gender?

Hi all, I am starting to worry that one of my easter eggers girls is actually a roo and thought I'd ask for advice. Here are some pictures of Gadget. He/She is 14 wks old, not crowing, and does not have the triple pea-comb as far as I can tell, but the back feathers are quite long. I'm not...

Help! Pullets won't go up ramp to the coop!

Sweet success! (at least for one night). Kept the chickens in the coop for five days and then we let them out of confinement this weekend. We added their old brooder lamp inside the coop. We still had to get them from under the coop that first night, but with the bright light in the coop, they...

Drying Agents in Coop - a comparison

The feed store I go to had Dry Stall and said this was good for keeping an area dry. I mistakenly thought it was the same as Stall Dry- which it is not. Dry Stall is apparently volcanic aggregate. So confusing with the names! Since I got a 2 for 1 deal because the two last bags at the store...

Help! Pullets won't go up ramp to the coop!

Thanks for all the help everyone! My husband is boardingup the nest box as I type. We will try to turn on the light earlier too. I just haven't seen the birds actually climbing up the ramp, so I was wondering if the steps were too far apart, or if the birds and humans just needed some training...

Help! Pullets won't go up ramp to the coop!

Warden, Your picture is hilarious! The things we do for our chickens! I've read about putting a light in the coop, but that hasn't seemed to help. I just searched the forum and read about locking the chicks in the coop for several days so that they know it is home. Has this worked for anyone...

Help! Pullets won't go up ramp to the coop!

Hi all, Our 8 week pullets have been in their combo coop/run for a week now and they are still not using the ramp to go up to the coop at night. My husband has to carry them up from under the coop where they are huddled together every evening. We have tried putting food on the ramp, etc but...

    Hi from San Francisco!

Excited to post for the first time on this forum that I've surfed a billion times already! I have endured plenty of "are you crazy" looks from fellow urbanites who are shocked that I am raising a backyard flock here in the city, but I hope to make many converts in the future! I do have...
