I'm in the process of finishing up my coop/run that I constructed. The coop is 4'x6' with a 6'x12' covered run. (Very similar to the Wichita Cabin Coop). I'm putting the finishing touches on the run itself and am getting ready to add sand to it. My question is this, should I put weed block...
I'm curious to know when I can stop using the heat lamp above our chicks. They are almost 5 weeks old and have most all of their feathers. They are still inside the house which is a constant 70 degrees....for now, hopefully I can get their coop built soon...they are starting to make a mess!
I'm in the design phase of my chicken coop that I am building and I'm wondering what size the roost needs to be. I've looked at many of the coops on this site, but some of the pictures, its hard to tell. Also, how many feet of roost do I need for 8-10 chickens? I've heard approx. one foot per...

Good Luck.

My family and I are looking at starting our first every "chicken experience" in the next couple of days with the purchase of some chicks from the local farm store. I have two younger children, 9 and 5 years old and am curious as to a good "starter" breed. I think we will be buying six since...
