If you do happen to have a large (20" X 150") tall (5-6 foot") and STONG chicken pen, sure. You also have to raise the emu babies with the chickens. Emus sometimes play-chase the chickens, so make sure the chickens have a safe place to go (under or in the coop).
I had an emu with spayed legs, wich is what it sounds like. Kyeema lived to be a few months old. We brought her to the vet, nothing we could do. At 6 months, she could no longer walk and had to be put down. Emu makes great steak, though.
Thank you all!
The pig is back in its pen. The pigs have never met, but she got lonely after dark and heard the other pig in its pen, and after a hour or so she went in. This started at 9:00 this morning and ended at 8:30. I didnt even get lunch. It was just luck that she went in the pen...
Someone came here this morning to drop of our two new pigs. Well, one of them got loose. (not our fault in any way) Our house is close to a road. Its about as close to a highway as a road can get without having two lanes... lots of speeding and corners. We have tried everything to get this pig...
Chicks dont run away. If its warm, and you are there with them, and willing to catch them after... I would let them play outside. Dont leave them alone one second, though. Tons of critters out there that want a chick snack!
Sounds like you just about as much about ratites as I do horses, welsummerchicks!
I can only repeat what others said. My emus have ripped open a little dog. (not mine) My three emus would have chased( not sure how sucsessfuly) the rottie that came to our house last week. Rheas are smaller than...
I went to go check my lavender american goose's nest today, and I found a tiny egg. They have been laying for a few weeks now, and all the eggs have been good-sized. This egg is smaller than my OEGB chicken's eggs, and round, like a ball. This ever happen to you? Both the geese are laying every...
If by ostriches you mean my emus, No! Not mean at all...they are big puppies! They walk on a leash! Yesterday Burnu, my emu, (the one with the santa hat on) tried to sit on my lap. Memories from when he was small, I guess.
I will be there!
I am bringing one of my geese... never done that before. I hope someone will bring sumatras... went to the Big E just to see some and there were NONE. Not one!
I would like to see what people have to say. Its hard finding a cold hardy bird, other than some fancy chickens and phesents. If you keep the birds in the house in the winter, you could get anything.
