Hi I have two adult californian quails, its there first winter outdoors in a planted aviary was wondering what to give them as an extra supplement for. Winter, I saw thewild bird suet balls with inseccts. In them, can you give these to quails?

Nice! Mine will be 6ft x 4ft and will be put on my decking, I have a blackcurrant bush for it. I'm thinking some tufts of grass so they can make a nest, not sure what to use for them to roost in, as these like to roost up high most the year
Hi has anyone done a planted aviary for quail. Did you fix a bottom to the aviary or just filled with soil and planted it,(the aviary will be on top of decking)

I feed mine chick crumb mixed with finch seed then chuck eggs or mealworms and some veg in occasionally, seems to work, I gave my quails layers mash and that worked well, lots of eggs then lol

Finch seed is usually easy to get hold of and if they are laying then scramble up some of their own eggs for extra protein, I give my quails layers mash as well, a little bag in pets at home. Also sprouts, brocalli, dandelions, mealworms.

thanks for all the comments everyone. I don't think the space is an issue, we had to take one of the hens to the vets, and they said it is the worst time of year to introduce new comers coz its the middle of breeding season. so I think later in the year i'll try what you said and switch them...
