It is to the left of her crop on the left side of her neck, they had lice a while ago but I treated them and they’re fine now but she hasn’t stopped preening that one section. We’re also in summer so she is moulting. I don’t have a rooster and she’s the top hen so she doesn’t get preened of...
Hey guys,
my gorgeous isa brown has been aggressively preening one section of her body to the point where there is noticeable feather loss. I went to inspect and found a purple feather. Could this be causing her pain and should I pull it out? I’m worried if I pull it that it will get infected...
My hen is getting a lot worse she became unresponsive within the last hour I called the animal emergency and told them again what happened they said she might have egg yolk peritonitis. They said that I have to pay $550 upfront or they won’t do anything and I don’t have any savings left. I’ve...
Thank you, I really appreciate this. I’m about to go out to the store, her condition has gotten worse. She went back to her run, tail down and just laying pecking at crumbles I put out for her. She doesn’t seem to want pellets or large items. Will try bathing her outside now that I have another...
The thing is this happens a lot. So much so that I have calcium syrup that I give her I don’t think it’s got anything to do with calcium. I broke the egg she layed today it had a blood spot so I’m going to take her to a vet when they open again. Quite worrying she’s my favourite bird 😓
Now she’s up and about acting normal but still quite puffed up. I’m starting to wonder if it is a reproductive issue. This happens quite often, I don’t work so I spend a lot of my time with them; if she was getting sick I feel like I would know the cause after being out there from 6-8:30...
This morning she layed her egg in my yard. It had a shell but she’s barely moved. She’s swollen and I can’t get to her vent today. I had a problem with calcium in her diet when I first got her so I changed it to include extra calcium and protein. She free ranges my yard and has been fine doing...
Hey, did you come up with a solution? My isa brown is doing the same thing every couple weeks. I thought it was calcium but now I’m not so sure. She starts getting bloated and then when she finally lays it will be a soft egg(whole) with yellow liquid covering it. She’s my best layer some days...
I hope so! My head hen hasn’t taken well to her yet but Delilah has the biggest feet in the flock so I think she might take over that role in a few months. I really hope it grows back but if it doesn’t I will keep feeding her soft foods.
I’m so sorry to hear about your girl, do you have to dry...
I originally thought she was just a little bit special and was just born this way. I didn’t really think that the “underbeak” would be there if she had been debeaked. I feel really bad for these animals. I hope your rooster lives a full life, they all deserve to!
Of course! The lady I get my hens from takes isa browns before they go into a battery house. Delilah is very timid, I’m not sure how old she was when she was taken but I don’t think she’s had a very good experience with life yet. I did read that it’s possible for the beak to grow back, that’s...
Hey Everyone!
I’m from Melbourne, Australia and I recently bought a new Isa brown hen. I noticed she had an underbite and was later informed she had been debeaked in the battery hatchery. My hens free range my backyard and I’m always out helping them turn soil for worms. Delilah can eat and...
She’s about 4 months old and has been laying everyday since I got her. She was given to me by a lady that raises commercial hens, so I really have no idea where she came from. I’ve been feeding her golden yolk pellets with shell grits mixed in. They also get a scratch grain mix every couple of...
