Will my Silkie Roo try to breed with my full size hens?

Thanks so much! I would definitely donate as I plan to do this with extra eggs as well. But I am one of those crazies that gets too attached to my chickens to think about slaughtering them so I may just not let any of the girls hatch the eggs. Besides there are a few other breeds I'd like to get...

Will my Silkie Roo try to breed with my full size hens?

Wow!! What a quick response! I love this forum. Everyone has been so helpful and has not made me feel like a total dummie. Thanks so much for that info. That makes a lot of sense to me. I'd rather leave them in there and not have to introduce later. So you're saying that this probably won't...

Will my Silkie Roo try to breed with my full size hens?

Oh ok. Thanks. I actually noticed him hanging on to my black Australorp the other day. I wondered if he was trying to do the deed ;) Do I have to be concerned about the hens also being young? They are about 23 weeks. And not all of them are laying yet. Also, do people just generally let the hen...

Will my Silkie Roo try to breed with my full size hens?

Thanks. That was sort of my question. I didn't know if it was something I needed to worry about. Sounds like I don't. I guess my biggest problem will be trying to figure out who he's bred and who's eggs are who if I want to try and hatch some crosses. Not sure yet if I want to do that. Thanks...

Will my Silkie Roo try to breed with my full size hens?

This may sound like a silly question, but I have one Silkie Rooster and 13 full size hens of varying breeds. This Silkie was supposed to be a hen, but he's definitely a he! Will he try to breed with the other girls? Do I need to even worry about it? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

My 18week old hen laid an egg a day for 7 days, then nothing...

I hope I didn't offend you by implying I spend more time with my girls than you do. That was definitely not my intention! I meant my comment to be making fun of myself for the ridiculous amount of time I spend with them. Pretty sure it qualifies for an obsession at this point ;) Mine too also...

My 18week old hen laid an egg a day for 7 days, then nothing...

It is definitely early. I was surprised to find any eggs that young. But she started laying an egg a day for 7 days when she turned 18 weeks. She laid nothing for 5 days then started laying again yesterday. They're all 20 weeks now, so I expect to see more eggs soon!

    Hello!

Haha! Good question!! He was inside while I was away. I imagine he heard the ruckus and would have liked to tell me or my husband but we weren't home of course. I only say this because he has alerted us to other disturbances near the coop. He's very protective of his flock. I'm sure if he was...

My 18week old hen laid an egg a day for 7 days, then nothing...

Opa Bee: I think I know this because I spend an abnormal amount of time with my hens ;) Really, I'm pretty sure it's her based on some of her behaviors and the amount of time she spend in the nest box. After 5 days of nothing, she laid another egg today! Think she just needs some time to...

Imogene08: Thank you so much for such a quick response. I wondered if this was the case so I was relieved to hear your answer. Funny, today as I was leaving for work, I checked one more time and poof! there was an egg! Thanks for your help!

Hi I'm new to BYC and to chickens this year. We have 14 hens, many different breeds, all about 20 weeks old now. Big oversized coop with an attached 400sq foot predator proof pen. They are all happy, healthy and just about the sweetest chickens I've met. One of my Barred Rocks, Besse, started...

    Hello!

Hi! I'm new to BYC and actually new to chickens, too. We live in NH with our 100lb German Shepherd, Sigg. We've always wanted chickens and finally own a home with plenty of land to do it. We got 24 chicks in May of this year. We built a beautiful oversized coop and a 400sqft predator proof...

2014 BYC Calendar - Your Pictures Needed!

Here are 2 great pics of our 100lb German Shepherd puppy (he was 15mo in these pics, chicks were about a week old). He loves his girls and prides himself on protecting his flock in this pic, the chick had climbed himself up on Sigg's bed with him and then I'm not sure what he was thinking ;)...
