Our neighbors keep the coyote population at a very controllable level here. Which is good, because the only dog we have who will chase coyotes thinks she is much bigger than she is. THe other two hide in the front porch when they hear yipping. Our old place was really bad for them, I couldn't...
You can have mine! lmao! I thought it'd be cool to have a roo for the hens, and they do seem to take comfort in his protection... However, I'd like my boy to be able to look at his chickens without being a target for talons :-D I think I may just keep the jerk locked up in the coop during free...
I had a blue for a few years. Her only buddy died of old age, and without her to guide her around where it was safe she ended up going to the coyotes one night :-( They were really bad at that place, the dogs were no help either.
I love cochins, and hopefully will have more again some day...
I haven't been here in a while, just don't have the time, so I figure now that my birds are all grown up I should post some fun pics of us free ranging. It took a few days of their coop being open for them to really come out, but now they come running after me when I open their door in the...
So lemme get this straight, this dlm is basically when you don't clean your coop? I'm confused, how is this a good thing? I also think maybe that's what the previous tenants of this farm were doing in our coop. The crap on the floor was built up almost 2'. It took me a LOT of sweat and a...
Right now I have four pullets and three cockerels. These boys I'm trading for four EE pullets, then getting a Maran cockerel. So bok bok count will be 9. I'll see how they do, might throw in four more Marans. Cost of feed will hopefully be covered by egg sales.
Thanks for your input people :-)... I think for what we have now around 15 birds is tops. Free ranging isn't possible with our one lab mix, all the training in the world will never force her high prey drive into hibernation. I look forward to expanding their coop run next spring! Some trees...
I think it's awesome and I'd love to be more self sufficient. Heck we don't even have a garden lol. The husband tried to til one up this spring but the ground is just so hard and dry like clay, we need to order a truck of topsoil next season.
We have plans for a large garden and I'll be...
Oh I completely agree with the raw diet. I wish I could afford to feed my dogs the flesh they were designed to eat! All this crud that goes even in the premium dog food is disgusting. i can't afford premium dog food though, and they are going to eat whatever game my husband can hunt this...
I am on mat leave and have been since December 2012... Mat leave in Canada is only something like 65% of your wages and we took a cut of 700.00 per month. On top of all of the other crazy bills and financial obligations like child support (ex left him, he aint no deadbeat!!!), the loan to buy...
