Yep plenty food and water, we keep both full at all times. Its not that they are being excessively loud or anything but its not a huge house and sound carries good in here. It also attracts the attention of our pitbullies who could easily get to them if they wanted. They are good dogs though and...
Yep should be plenty warm. They are in a very large cooler with a heat lamp on one end and they are scattered all over the cooler and not bunched up which would indicate they were to cool. Thermometer on the cool end is around 80 so they should be fine.
Our bunch of new chicks just hatched and since its so cold outside we are keeping them inside till they get big enough to go outside. They have been chirping so loud its annoying. My son put a sleep noise machine next to them on rain and they hardly make a sound now. Just thought I'd throw that...
Yep I think your right about the yolk sac. He is still dragging it around and he is getting more and more stable at standing up. I dunno if he is gonna make it or not. I will give him a lil more time in the incubator and get him out to some food and water. Anyone got any ideas what to do to help...
So far we have had 23/40 hatch in good shape. #24 just hatched with his guts outside his body. I know he will die and I feel sorry for the lil guy but not much I can do.
I got 40 eggs in there. We have 11 Pearl white Leghorn hens, 10 red star hens and 32 Buff Orpington hens. 1 Pearl white rooster and 2 buff orpington roosters so the eggs are all mixed up, but these hatchlings are all meat birds unless we get some full stock Pearl whites and we will keep those...
This is our first ever hatch and the first one just entered the world. He is still wet and making the other eggs roll around. Do I need to get him out or leave him there till he dries?
I put 40 eggs in for a Thanksgiving day hatch and my wife just told me they were chirping and 3 cracked eggs early this morning. I am at work and the kids at school and we are going to miss it! This is our first ever hatch. Think they will all be done by the time we get home?
This is an awesome thread. Extremely informative for first time hatchers like myself. Ours is on day 7 today and we were thrilled to see them moving awile ago. We have 54 hens and only 3 roosters. I wanted to hatch about 20 birds and I figured the fertility rate would be low so we set 40 eggs...
Howdy folks! I am new to raising chickens. Got my first flock back in the spring. My wife and I have 57 birds in all. 12 Pearl white leghorns, 10 red stars and the rest are buff orpingtons and only 3 roosters ( they work hard )......lol. other pets include 3 pitbulls, a Jack Russel, a 3 legged...
