Found this in the coop this morning down in a pile of pooh. Didn't smell, looks and feels like boiled chicken, is hollow on the inside and full of liquid.
Our birds picked up lice at the fair last year. Apparently we didn't get rid of them all so we're retreating now. Can anyone remind me about Permethrin 10:
1. What is the egg withdrawal period?
2. When is the second dose due?
3. Since we have twice the flock size can I just make a dip and dunk...
My maran just laid her first egg and it wasn't exactly what I expected. I know their egg colors can vary, but I'm curious if there's any chance yet her eggs will get darker or if they'll stay this light.:(
These are what we hatched her from.
This is what she's laid.
We hatched since lovely marans of mixed colors and we end up with four lovely birds. There is a blue we are confident is a hen, two blue Copper roos and one little one we can't quite decide on.
I assume the two in the back are both roos, feont right a hen, and we think the front left chicken...
Found this little white oddity in my coop yesterday. We have three eggers in their third laying season, and six Araucanas in there first. I'm curious if the white egg is maybe one of the older girls loosing some color, I know that the brown egg layers can lose color as they get older but I...
It was most definitely a barred rock roo! And after a lot of tinkering in our own backyard with EEs and Araucanas over the last two years we've gotten pretty good at spotting the roos in a hatch. Funny how a lot of it just kind of boils down to experience more so than definable guidelines when...
He has a beak, and everything else he is supposed to....except feathers lol. I'm not sure if you can see clearly enough in this photo but all he was born with were the little dark colored hairs sticking up on his back. He appears to be slowly getting in his big boy feathers now just fine...
I'm honestly not even sure of the best place to post this. We have this araucana guy, he was hatched by his mom and kicked out of the nest. His siblings look normal, he didn't have any feathers when I found him....he's very wirey and rough feeling and it almost looks like he has hairs sticking...
I appreciate the advice, but she's the only "heavy" bird we have and its working for us. It does get cold in NC at night and every night the roost beside the heater is crowded with chickens trying to be the closest one to it. I don't NEED a lot of things but that doesn't mean I don't like them. ;)
Husband installed the heat lamp when he built the coop, we only run it at night in the winter. Our chickens are a bit spoiled lol! Thanks for the help, we do have a roo. He's an EE and half the eggs Tweety is hoarding are from EE hens. Ought to be interesting what the others turn out looking...
We have an Orpingtin hen, I believe she was hatched in february, who has suddenly decided to turn broody. Last night when we checked on her she had four eggs, she roamed outside with the rest of the flock most of the day and I just noticed she has returned to the nest box and now has at least...
