Well I have 9 birds in my coop, and most of them are the egg laying age. However, I got my first egg yesterday and my second one today. EXCITED!!!!
I expected it was my "Big Momma" because she is about 8 weeks older then the rest of my girls.
I am pretty new to the game myself. However, I have found as long as the coop has ample ventilation and the birds are provided with unlimited water they will be fine. They will usually hide out in the shade during the day. So that would be good as well. So I guess they need 3 things...water...
My chicken named "Big Momma" has started making some wierd noises. Now I am wondering if it is a boy or a girl? Also does anyone know what kind of chicken it is, it's the one in front (red)?

lol...well it started out at 60 degrees, but with the weight it has collapsed to about probably 40 degrees. I have placed a 2x4 below the elbow to help it from collapsing again.
I built this feeder based off of the information I found on this website. By the way I LOVE this site.
It is built from 4 inch PVC, and is angled at 60 degrees. I use layer pellets for my girls, but I find I have to shake the feeder for the food to pass the elbow.

I got my first egg today. Excited for them to continue. Only now i wonder which chicken laid the egg? Hmmm....isn't that the ultimate question? Not which one came first, but which one laid it.
