South American (SoAm) Composites - Project Lineages

I'm trying to sort out the South American derivative birds I've been working with for the past few years. I use the term "South American" quite loosely since it's a very big place, innumerably fragmented by environmental, cultural, and social situations which have shifted dramatically and...

    Colloncas, Huastecs, & Quechuas

Shiro's parents both came from Taft Hill. Dulcita has an extra toe on her left foot but she has yellow legs and a single comb. She's solid white. If the extra toe came by way of silkie genes, the contribution has to be minimally two generations back but probably farther since it's only her left...

    Pink Egg Project

Very cool - I love trying to figure out the inner workings of the shell traits!

Here are my latest two "coming of age" pullets from my rumpless project (Aikiko) - I'm keeping my fingers crossed the one of the left will lay eggs like her momma - They're still not as shiny as the grandmother of the little hen on the right -

    Egg shape and heredity

The hatchability is fine. I just wonder how significant the roosters are in determining the shape.

    Egg shape and heredity

I'm seeing this rounded, blunt end egg shape in my flock and I think it might be being passed by the males.... or maybe I'm imagining things! This hen's mother lays longer, narrower eggs.... BUT Chulla's father's sisters lay eggs like this.... Maybe I'm imagining things!

    Pink Egg Project

Hope to hear more soon.... I'm interested in all things eggshells. Are you seeing any consistency in the shape of the egg from mother to daughter or depending on rooster, etc...?

    Double Laced Partridge "House"

I have a very nice pair of partridge bantam wyandottes - beautiful lacing! A little silver / blue laced easter banty who lays olive - green eggs stayed with them. (That's her egg in the far right corner.) Here's "Viandotte" - daughter of the PBW rooster and Opal. She has really...

The white fibro chick from your flock is gorgeous! Hope the recessive white allele can be kept in the gene pool. Do any of the adults in your breeding flock have extra toes? I'm interested in how the polydactyl genes in these SoAm project lineages compare to the polydactly traits I've seen...

Aikiko Collonca Project ~ Rumpless Bantam Fibro Shiny Blue Eggs

6+ eggs from an ongoing project focused on stabilizing a rumpless, fibromelantistic bantam flock that lays shiny blue eggs. I have developed pedigrees for each of the birds in this lineage and like to keep track of birds hatched by buyers. Not all my hens are laying shiny blue, not all of...

    Colloncas, Huastecs, & Quechuas

That chick is SOOOOO white!! Does it have any pattern on it at all? What do its feet look like? Maybe it's the lighting but is her/his back a slightly different color? The only time I've seen a solid color chick as white as this one was a recessive white. (see my avatar) Neither parent...

    Breeding Houses and Dedicated Coops

At last count I had 20 different potential living areas to house my birds - some dedicated to a specific flock and others for temporarily housing sub-sets of birds. I keep my broodies, my elderly, and my super itty bitties separate from the free-range flocks. There are two free-range houses...
