Sorry for the late reply! There are no thorns and the fruit or whatever it may be has a strange almost water-melon patterning during the earlier stages of its development. The majority of the fruit are yellow and have a very dull pattern or none at all.
I found this plant behind my house and am not sure what kind it is, if it is edible, or practically anything about it. Can someone give me some information? I thought it was a green zebra tomato at first but it has a lot of seeds inside like a pepper plant. When I took one off and brought it...
Thanks for the input, Chick Chick McGee.
We've been monitoring her for the past few days and she seems to be doing fine, so hopefully she is going to be alright.
We recently got 8 new chicks for raising then selling. We purchased 6 sapphire gems, 1 americauna, and 1 little barred rock. The barred rock seems to have a crooked toe.
2 days ago when we got them was when we noticed it. It looked like she got her middle toe broken when she was in the brooder...
I wash mine completely before putting them in the pot :drool
They go in the fridge dirty and are cleaned before eating. We've started to sell our eggs and unless the person requests clean eggs we don't wash them(and put a little 'wash before eating' notice on the box).
So it's been a while! The flock is doing great, we are now getting 4 eggs a day(yet to find out who are laying them). We are up to 13 chickens now. The 9 original(3 RIR, 2 BR, 2 LH, 1 ALP, 1 GLW roo) and now 4 new golden buffs. My mother got confused when she went to pick up the chickens(she had...
Thanks for your help Ridgerunner, I'll have to see if I can set up some sort of rolling egg box to get the shelled eggs from potentially being eaten. Also, I probably should have been more specific. The reason Potpie has been laying only shell-less eggs is that for many weeks she wasn't laying...
Hello BYC!
It's been a while! A lot has been going on since the start of the summer and obviously, I haven't been able to post(not that anyone would be particularly interested in that fact ). I wanted to ask a few questions about my chickens and their recent activities.
1. First order...
My goodness, I'm so sorry, I'm not sure it will help but I know what that is like.
When I was younger and my family owned turkeys we eventually had to kill them for meat. The people who bought the turkeys came and killed them on our lawn that same day. I felt so upset and cried for hours...
Alright, we finally found someone to get us a coop. It's going to be sent to us after it is made up North and then the chickens will finally have somewhere to permanently stay(let's hope it is a good deal better quality than the other coops we have, one of them just cracked straight in two and...
Ok, I've been monitoring it for the past few days and I've determined that I am a paranoid chicken mom  It was nothing more than a pesky bug (thankfully). Today we did a deep scrub of the young chicken's coop and tomorrow we will be attempting to do the older chickens(the only problem...
I would have to say we do live in a hurricane zone. We don't get hit every 6-8 weeks or something crazy like that, but before we got the chickens we were hit with Irma when it made it further inland. I think that if we had just the shed with the modifications and whatnot, we would be fine.
So a few days ago I saw a bug climbing on one of the younger chickens. From what I could tell the other girls had them as well. It wasn't small like an ant or bigger like a small beetle, but more like a type of lice. I didn't get a good look at it but my parents had me put diatomaceous earth...
