    Four Toes On A Silkie

Normally 4 toed silkies are culled. I don't think anyone has bred one due to the fact that they could end up with 4 toed chicks. But I am not a silkie breeding master!

finally evicted out to the coop (pic)

The black/brown ones are BSL like previous posters have mentioned. And the other two are RSL (Red sex link) otherwise known as golden comets.

    Dying chick?

Hatching is a hard process, normally they will rest for a couple hours to regain their energy. No need to worry until after 24 hrs it is not up and moving around. So leave it alone for now and make sure it is warm and that's about it. And if no more hatch you're gonna have to get it some friends!

To Litter or not to litter....

Cedar shavings and newspaper are the no-nos. I recommend the pelletized bedding for horses, best absorbency of any bedding I've used it for steers, horses, lambs, you name it I've bedded it with the pelletized bedding.

Hatched chick with head curved between legs *pics*

Its tendons and ligaments are probably just tight, I see it happen with calves. Just make sure it eats and drinks and if it doesn't improve within 48 hrs...start to worry. And don't worry about culling...give it a chance.

Can I use wood pellets for bedding?

I use the pellets and even when the pellets decompress back into sawdust (they are compressed pine sawdust) I don't have a problem with them being eaten.

    Roo?

Quote: The one in the back looks like a Golden Comet, and as far as the other one- I have noticed that the red girls mature faster so don't count your chickens yet!
