I have one hen with spurs that I really thought was a rooster. I even had her in a coop full of roosters I was going to give away until the poor thing dashed out one day when I went to feed and my head rooster topped her! Then I knew something wasn't quite right! lol
I had the same thing happen! My closest neighbor lives abut 1/4 mile away and she had all male guineas. I ended up having a single female guinea and two of the neighbor's male guineas took up residence at our house. We had our guinea in our chicken coop and those poor male guineas just ran the...
I don't know much about it either, but from what I read in Storey's guide to raising chickens, if you are going to dye them in the egg, the optimal time is from days 11 to 14 of incubation. I would assume that the chick's gender would be determined by then, but I can't say for sure.
I am sure this topic has been covered many times before, but here it goes anyway. I recently acquired a new rooster for my hens, and I was wondering how long to expect the girls' eggs to be fertilized by my first rooster.
I received a call today from Ideal about my buttercup chicks. The lady I spoke too was very nice, and they are reshipping them on Wednesday along with some other chicks I had previously ordered. Hopefully this shipment will work out better than the first one.
I don't mean to make you guys lose hope, but I had the same problem with a Wednesday shipment from Ideal. I ordered 15 sicilian buttercups, and they did not arrive until this morning (Saturday). Every one of them was dead on arrival. I had one very disappointed grandmother and little cousin...
I just wanted to give you a little bit of hope. On Ideal's website they say that Sicilian buttercups are sold out until April, so I signed up to be notified about them. I got an e-mail yesterday saying that they could ship them to me today, so I should have some cute little buttercups by next...
Thanks for the information! I think that I will be able to put sand in the coop and try some of the things from that link. I think that my problem is water running downhill and into the coop. Digging a trench that leads away should help prevent most of the water problem.
Thank you for the advice! I was thinking the same thing about running some pvc pipe to drain the water out, but I wanted to get some expert opinions first. lol
I am new to this board and I have really enjoyed learning from everyone. I hatched some FBCM chicks two weeks ago and I have some gold-laced cochin eggs in the incubator that are due to hatch this weekend. So, in preparation for my new babies, I am trying to fix my old chicken coop. I know it...
I am hatching my first batch of chicken eggs in years, so it is almost like the first time all over again. lol I have some black copper marans eggs and some silver-laced wyandotte eggs due on the 21st, about 20 eggs in all. I candled today and saw movement in some so I am becoming increasingly...
