I had Silkie chick hatch last week, unsure of the parentage, but it's black with pure white belly, wing tips, & leg feathers...It's starting to feather in & the white is remaining so...I can hardly wait to see what the final feathering is...she rather looks like a penguin now.
The color...
Where are you located? I am working on a project of light skinned silkie feathered chickens......What color are their eyes? & do they have blue earlobes?
I found this thread, looking for a solution to a similar problem I have with a chick. She's a Silkie/Favorelle mix...only a few weeks old & I noticed the deformity...she seems to be eating well...as with any deformity, it JUST happens....
Recently set 3 eggs from my solid white D'uccle hen & her solid white roo mate (although a self-blue roo was in the pen a month before the egg was laid)...Today I hatched 2 solid white chicks & this Oddball...any clues to it's eventual color? There is NO way that any other roo could have gotten...
At least I DO know that there were only D'uccles in the pen, so my only question will be what color...could make a great project chick, I've never seen these markings before on a D'Uccle
I brooded three sets of chicks under my EcoGlow20 with great success...I decided to check the temp under it & it reads 78 degrees...so apparently that is good enough...With a light, I had trouble with chicks dying, & I think it was just too hot....Two things I DON'T like about the EcoGlow #1...
I am baffled by this little one...Mother was a solid white & the only roo in the pen for a month prior to the egg was ALSO solid white...There had been a blue roo in with the pair, but it was gone 4 weeks...Any ideas? Can't wait to see what this cutie becomes...it may very well become my next...
