Our new chicks
Still under construction... will add pics soon
After living on a small parcel of land (not even 1/2 an acre) the hubby and I, (for a long time) wanted to sell and move onto bigger property. Well, all went as planned and we move to a 25 acre property with 5 open acres...
Hey LUVDUCKS,
What breed? Is a roo? of chick you got there on the right (yellow)? I have two the same and don't know what kind they gave me, I had ordered specific chicks but got two extra and don't know if they are roos or hens or what breed they are. thanx
Yeah, that is what they say in my book also, but i had two turkeys, one died the first day i got it and so the other one was all alone, and not eating too much and lonely so now he is in with the chicks, I am taking a chance with him. Hopefully he makes it. If after a week he does well, I...
going to try to answer a few questions.
depending on where you live. I am in Canada and I have had chickens for quite a few years and this is what I had for 10 chickens.
I had a 10x10 shed (we no longer used so became a coop) and we had the nest boxes at about our shoulder height, give or...
Hi there,
My chicks are always fixing/preening their feathers. It gets itchy i guess as the feathers are growing and its a way for them to "pluck" out the down they have also that is not needed where the feathers are growing. So I would not worry at all, just part of being a chick. My two...
I put my day old chicks with my two week old chicks no separation. I supervised them, and to my surprise, no pecking was done, actually, the two week old chicks mother the day old ones and the babies follow the older ones all over, mingle and so on, its a happy family in the coop. Even my...
Thank you very much for your advice/input, will post pics asap.

I put my day old's that I got yesterday in the coop with my two week old chicks and supervised them and at first the older ones were scared but after a few minutes they all mingled together, one of my two week old hen chick is "acting like a grown up mama" and stays with them, sleeps beside them...
No pasty butts, I guess like you say they are just not settled in yet, they have gotten better since this morning though... thank you all for your responses, will try teddy bear in brooder also
Cheers!
I just got my two day old turkeys this morning and they have food, water, temp to 95F like they specify, one turkey sleeping, and quiet the other is like freeking out, wanting to get out what it looks like and chirping very loudly. I hung a feather duster in the brooder for them but still not...
Where I live it is still cool out, and my chicks have been out in their insulated coop since they are 1 1/2 weeks old. There are two 250W heat lamps in there for them on all day and all night, and they are just thriving.
I would leave heat lamp on if its cold out. They should be just fine!
Here is our brooder 8'x2'(one half of it anyhow).... My chicks are now almost 2 weeks old and they have discovered that they can fly, and not sure if its normal for a week old chick.. but they have been "sand bathing" since about that age, some sooner.... (first time raising chicks)so its all new...
