I'm REALLLLLLLYYYYY not interested in dealing with chicks (yes, I know they're cute, but that's just more than I want to tackle). But, we're wanting to add to our flock. In the past, we've been able to find pullets fairly easily, but it seems with the run on chicks these days, no one is selling...
Hi all,
I have a rat problem that predates my chickens, but has gotten worse since we got them. I've got the grandpa feeder and have rat-proofed the run, but they aren't going anywhere and the traps I've tried (electric, claws, roller bar) have all been failures. I don't want to use poison...
I'm curious what setup people use for a brooding box when you're letting the hen do the majority of the work for you! Can you send pictures?
When I Google it/search on here, all of the brooder setups are for chicks alone, not a hen and chicks. I've got a hen sitting on two eggs right now, so...
Thank you so much for this advice! I was definitely expecting her to know it all (and didn't really have any idea of signals of what NOT knowing it would be!), so this helps a lot!
I didn't know that! But, the eggs aren't bantam--we bought them for the bantam to hatch since she so clearly wanted to be a mama. Figured it was worth a shot! Worst case, we're out like $6-10.
Ok, I'm a pretty new chicken rancher--only had my original girls since last November. And our bantam Cochin went broody, so we went ahead and got her some eggs to hatch. She's 2 weeks in on that, so I've got one more week to prepare. I've read some articles, and feel generally prepared, but...
Hi, @seattlechicken2019! Did you end up doing this? How'd it go? I'm in exactly the same situation right now and had the same question! Would love to hear how your experience went! Thanks!
TLDR: Seeking recommendations for reputable place to get HEALTHY pullets near Tacoma (not TSC).
I'm looking to add two pullets to my flock (of 2 existing chickens) in the coming months. Challenge is, I don't have space in my backyard coop setup for quarantine. I can separate them for an...
Great feedback! Thank you for the picture too! Any additional thoughts on how do I do it so I can still lift/work the latch with my hand? Or do I need to replace the latch with something else to make this work?
We've got rats living under the shed by our chicken run. So, I'm working on improving our coop and run to at least keep the rats out of there. The rats pre-date the chickens, and my neighbor's outside cat doesn't seem to care, so it's mostly an issue of managing the problem, although I do have...
Hey all! New chicken owner here in the Tacoma area and have a pretty sheltered coop and run, which we are in the process of making 100% predator proof. Once it's predator proof (by next weekend), what are your thoughts on leaving the coop door open during the night?
I did some researching...
