Hi everyone!
I had a "stray" hen who decided my back yard is a good place to raise her young. Each time she would come back with 10 chicks and most would die in various ways (mostly eaten by cats). In the last batch only 1 female survived. She is 4.5 months old now and the two are still...
We have "stray" chickens in the neighborhood who decided to take over my yard. Chia was abandoned when she was too young to fend for herself so I took her in; the rest stick around because of the food.
She sleeps outside on trees with the rest of the flock and occasionally comes inside for...
Update:
I waited till night time and then took her box away and put her with the rest of the flock. She was stubborn and tried coming back several times, and even stayed there all night, but I didn't leave her a place to sit in and eventually she cooled down.
This morning she was much better and...
She's been eating and drinking up until today. Today she would only drink water.
Since she does not have a coop, do you think I can just remove the nesting box?
I have a 6 month old hen who laid her first batch of eggs in a box I prepared for her. Since I don't want any more chickens, I took all the eggs and replaced them with fake ones. She's been sitting on them for a little more than 3 weeks. I thought that after 3 weeks she will get up if nothing...
Thank you for your answer. I'm still trying to think of a solution. They survived the night but I know they are nowhere near safe out there as long as they're on the ground.
The "defected" one seems to be a healthy but slow-developing rooster, his feathers were always under-developed compared to...
There are no others and no coop... If there was one there probably wouldn't be a problem. The chickens are not mine, they are "stray" chickens that decided they like my yard. They hang around here during the day and leave when it gets dark. The adults go to sleep nearby because there are no...
ok, I think I understand what happened, and Chickens Really was close.
The mother did not start to wean them - she abandoned them. Today she stopped answering their calls completely, and in the evening she left altogether. The two remaining chicks are inseparable. I believe she tried to get rid...
Update: the chick was edgy and frightened all day, but it seemed that he calmed down a little and he finally went to sleep with his family. He was also suddenly afraid of me today, so I'm guessing something happened last night or early this morning that scared him in general, perhaps someone...
