    CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread

Hey everyone! My girls are doing well and have started laying! Eleanor is my Ameraucana and top of the pecking order. She is a character indeed, a bossy buffers to everyone. Hermione is a black sex link and seems to be the low girl on the totem pole, but also my sweetest and most docile. Ginger...

Well I am officially a backyard chicken-er! We have Eleanor the ameraucana, Hermione the black sex link, and Ginger the blue laced red Wyandotte! :) now to finish the coop so the ladies will have a place to move to when they're out of the brooder!

Jeremy- We aren't allowed to have roosters in city limits. Otherwise I would have grabbed a pair of yours! Beautiful birds! I forgot about the hollister show! Maybe we will go and check it out!

Hey everyone! We're getting our ameraucana pullet tomorrow but still looking for a black copper maran and either an Orpington or a polish. Can anyone point me in the right direction for two young pullets soon?

Oh my gosh! I am going to go insane looking at all these adorable birds and not knowing when I can get some or whether I'll be able to get what I want! Currently my list is a Bantam Buff Laced Polish, a Black Copper Maran, a Lavender Ameraucana, and perhaps an Orpington because my son says that...

Sorry about all the wind damage! It sure has been crazy weather! When is Stockton exactly? I'm trying to figure out if I need to push up the coop building so that I can possibly get a couple pullets there. My boy twin was so enamored with the chickens cherylcohen posted, I may need to get...

I am looking for around February I think. We get our house next Monday and then we have to move in and build a coop/run. I've never really gone to feed stores around here either. Do they get birds in like they do in the central valley??

Thanks Jeremy! So would it be better to go to a feed store or a breeder? (am I opening a can of worms there?)

Fat chick is beautiful! How old is she? I have a question about getting pullets. When my mom got new birds she would go to the feed store for chicks, and if they turned out to be roosters, she'd separate them, then we'd eat them. I can only have two birds (might try to have 3, maran...

How fun! Yes, when I saw a crested bird at the pumpkin patch this year I went in search of what breed it was. This led to a mild obsession with the frilly sort of chicken! I'm already addicted and I haven't had birds in about twelve years! I am ridiculously excited to get some girls this year!

Quote: Thanks! I am still trying to work it all out, but for right now I want an ameraucana or Easter egger, a maran or barnevelder, and something crested and pretty to look at like a sultan. I really have no idea if those would work together or where to get them and know they're hens! Now...

I have been thinking of an ameraucana or Easter egger, then a maran, plus something crested! the sultans really appeal to me. But I really am at the beginning stages!

I want an egg laying flock, but I have always loved chickens for chickens sake as well. I had some grand idea of three hens laying different colored eggs. I am also in love with the looks of so many, that I'm in trouble for sure. I am more than a little emamored with the thought of bantams. I...
