Unfortunately, I had to put the one down today. It couln't eat or drink and was suffering more than I was willing to watch. Now I still have the one that has one leg dragging behind it. I hobbled it, but it isn't working. I don't know if I did it right. It is the fastest one in the group when it...
Thanks for the encouraging story. It gives me hope. I am letting nature take its course now. I am using pine bark pellets for bedding. They crumble into dust when they get wet, so that wouldn't be it. I think the swelling is going down now anyway.
There's nothing in its throat. I think it might pull through. I was just worried about it suffering. It seems to be fighting, so I'll give it a chance. Thanks to all for the concern. The reason I'm so worried is that this is the only one of the hatch that looks like my best rooster that died...
I hatched some chick and two of them are deformed. One has a leg that it drags behind it. The other has a swollen neck and a foot that is sort of turned backwards. My wife said that the neck wasn't swollen when it hatched. There was about three hours between then and the time I got home. The...
Mine said something about a 30 minute reading also, but I have a food thermometer in through one of the holes this time. I stuck it in there last time and thought it was wrong because it was reading different from the one I was going by. I calibrated it this time and it has the same reading as...
I took the mercury one that came with the bator and put it in ice water and it was 5 degrees high. There were three and each one was different. I checked the digital and it was closer than the other. These are cheap ones with the numbers on a piece of paper and the thermometer glued on top of...
Thank you. I was worried sick trying to figure out what I did. I thought originally that I had messed it up by putting the thermometer on the screen instead of on the eggs for the last three days. I was relieved, but still upset for the chicks.
I bought the Little Giant incubator and was very excited to make some fresh chickens. I followed the instructions religiously and only got 3 out of 31 to hatch. I opened many of them and they were perfectly formed, but dead. The ones that did hatch were two days late and one died since hatching...
I am waiting. I was expecting mine yesterday and and worried. I have religiously watched the temp, but don't have a hygrometer. There are 31 Australorp eggs with an Ameracauna rooster. Three looked empty at candling, but the rest looked fine.
My name is Tim. I live in Texas and have 12 Australorps, 1 Banty mix, 1 Cochin rooster, 1 RIR rooster, 1 Ameracauna rooster and a white Banty Frizzle Cochin rooster. I just started incubating and am disappointed because they were supposed to hatch yesterday and did not. I know it is not always...
