Freezing temps - should I keep chickens in coop?

I have a tractor with a small run on bottom. I decided to move it to a tree line today to block the wind. I'm sure they would have been fine. That guy in my profile pic (RIP) he loved to be out in the cold as long as there wasn't snow. He wanted NOTHING to do with that nonsense :)

Freezing temps - should I keep chickens in coop?

That last line sums up my situation to a "T". I literally laughed out loud :)

What is reasonable time to let the rooster outside?

I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this. I remember when our little guy Herbert - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/herbert started crowing, I was really concerned that he was bothering the neighbors. We're not quite as spread out as the situation you describe. I went and asked the closest...

Need home for barred rock rooster in east Tennessee (Seymour/Sevierville area).

That's him in my profile picture. He's a beautiful boy and this is going to be difficult to let him go, but I don't know what else to do.

Need home for barred rock rooster in east Tennessee (Seymour/Sevierville area).

We have a 1 year old barred/plymouth rock rooster that we're going to have to get rid of. His crowing is causing too many complaints with the neighborhood. If there's anyone who would be willing to give him a good home, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Shawn

    Communicating? Where's the bugs man?

Today, I go and get Herbert out of his coop so he can run around for a bit. (https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/herbert for those who aren't familiar) We head up to the front porch to do our usual song and dance. I sit and he wanders around looking for bugs and grazing for greens. He immediately...

Thank you all for the comments! I had no idea Herbert would become such a celebrity :) We'll probably get some hens in the spring. I wonder if he'll stay as friendly as he is now once we introduce the ladies into the mix? Thoughts?

    Herbert

So, back in early June, this little guy showed up in our yard. We have no idea where he came from. We didn't have a coop at first, so he was living in a patch of brush/trees where he felt safe. He would follow us around the yard whenever we were outside. Eventually, he started letting us...

Hi all, I've always thought it would be quite rewarding to raise chickens for fresh eggs. Recently, we had a hen just show up on our property. No idea where she came from. None of the surrounding neighbors have chickens. Anyhow, having her around has prompted me to look into what it would take...
