Morning all (at least it is in my part of the world),
Somewhere in my travels on this weird and sometimes wonderful information highway I have come a cross a spreadsheet (from a university, possibly American...I think) that would let you put in the percentages of your ration - wheat, corn...
Yes I agree with dlhunicorn, it may also give you some peace and help you to sleep tonight or tomorrow night, whatever it will be next time you need to sleep.
You need some concrete resolution here or you may never relax in your own home again.
Sorry to sound alarmist but it is so far beyond...
Try feeding the girls and boys (only if you have multiple roosters) with a child in a baby bjorn on your front. If you lift your feet too high odds are they will come down on a chook. I only get mad or frustrated if I am in a rush to go somewhere.
The almost final but inevitable sad tale of my 3 experimental eggs.
Day 22 finishes at 8pm tonight, I have just opened the two eggs that I had not seen any definite life when candling. One egg had no sign of a developing embryo at all, I am guessing it was infertile. The other egg had a very...
Hi nicalandia, Rex has a lot going for him, great leg and chest development. Sonya carries those characteristics through.
So Rex is a complete stand alone line and Sonya is a diferentline?

Hi usschicago1, yes I am guessing they are black copper marans (or brown reds).
Thanks for the thread chickiemomma4, can you tell me how far they have travelled? I am receiving eggs that will have travelled quite aways to get to me so I am all ears.
cheers, Dalles
Oh my!!! I am stunned/speechless, it is akin to being told you are going to be a father, for the fourth time.
I candled my eggs at day 10, you might remember, the three sacrificial eggs in my home-made incubator.
Well having never incubated before and never candled before when I saw movement...
I agree card5640, they are beautiful any chance of some egg pics so us Marans starved dreamers can salivate some more.
I am chasing a rumour of Marans in Western Australia at $10au per egg. If they were from these ones I would sell one of the kids.
cheers Dalles
The latest update on my backyard 'bator.
I have been very busy building chook coops and fine tuning the 'bator. I can now add water without opening the lid, I have a turning mechanism of sorts, not automatic, may have to be combined with turning by hand. My hygrometer has arrived and is in...
Can you get buckwheat seeds? I have grown this in Tassie from spring through to summer and it is very fast. However I have no idea whether chooks will eat it or even if they should eat it.
You could take your basic free range layer mix and plant this out?
Hi teach1rusl , I agree with most of the other posts, with your low density you should manage to keep your grass. I think Sitka and maybe some others mentioned sectioning off areas within your run to let them recuperate.
My experience with free ranging chooks here in Tasmania over the wettest...
Hi pbjmaker, I would be interested to here how your egg colour results go as I am thinking abou marans at a later date.
Thanks for the posting Grampa with chickens as I would like to understand this better. If nobody chimes in I might have a search for some links on this.
I was told I had sex...
Hi walkswithdog I am not misting the eggs to manage the humidity but more to check the humidity as I am still waiting for my hygrometer/thermometer to come in the post.
At this stage I am ironing out the bugs in our homemade 'bator and the three eggs I have in are our backyard girls so no...
