Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

Hi! Little check in.... life has been chaotic and busy. We're up to 20 chickens on the farm, with 2 broodies sitting on eggs as we speak. Still havent made my chicken wagon, they free range from the barn. They're adorable and super fun though. Still hoping to add some heritage dual purpose...

    Combining 2 groups of pullets

Thanks!! I absolutely adore it. My husband calls it a money pit... But he just doesn't understand how amazing a solid barn, that reduces freezing and has a ton of hay storage is. 😍😍😍

    Combining 2 groups of pullets

They have had that for a few weeks now! The Bresse were living in chicken "jail" in the coop (ala a large dog crate). They're only a month or two older that the younger group, but it shows. I've been trialing it. I think they're adjusting... it's hard to tell bc molting has tons of feathers...

    Combining 2 groups of pullets

I'm pretty sure these all count as pullets 😆 except the roo. I've got 5 Bresse (one roo) born June/July from a flock swap... and another batch of mixed chicks from end of July/August that were brooded elsewhere for me. When I picked up the younger chicks, they came with 2 Ameraucauna hens. The...

Mixed bag from TSC, breed guesses?

Hi all! My father brooded a bunch of chicks for me, some of whom were in TSC's mixed "gotta get rid of these fast" bin. They were different ages. I don't even know if they're all large fowl. 😆 No idea on breeds, he doesn't remember even what was offered at the time of purchase. Not sure on ages...

Mobile coop on a trailer design & build journal

good point. I didnt really give the roof of that bit much thought when I drew it. I've since been contemplating running the extension roof up to the beginning of the ventilation opening on the central area, with the top roof over hanging from above. Is something like this likely to work...

Mobile coop on a trailer design & build journal

I read that one!! Our birds will be inside once it gets cold. We've got a big old bank barn that stays warm (compared to outside, -30 anyways). They'll have a fixed coop there. That way none of the snow issues will be a concern, and water will freeze a lot less. This trailer coop will be...

Mobile coop on a trailer design & build journal

That is a really cool build! We're going to be more livestock-oriented than pet, and they'll have a big chunk of land to explore during the day. So this will definitely just be their indoor living quarters. Other than square footage, my biggest concern, i think, is accessibility. Coops and...

Mobile coop on a trailer design & build journal

Hi! I'm starting a new build and thought I'd journal it as I went in order to get feedback & share for other people's inspiration, amusement and maybe even benefit! (Even if the benefit is mostly what *not* to do😂) I just bought a little ATV trailer (4'x8') that is super easy to move and quite...

    Hi all!

Thanks all for the warm welcome! And @Callender Girl I love the reports i've heard of their temperament, the mousing and general skill for foraging, as well as ability to cope with heat and cold (NYS gets both), among other things. And honestly, the fact that they chatter sounds cute as...

    Hi all!

Hi everyone! Newbie (obviously, lol), about to start our chicken adventures this upcoming spring. We're buying a gorgeous place with plenty of acres where we can bring our horse home, and our first planned addition is laying hens! We had a few chickens when I was little, and I did *briefly*...
