I have a VERY basic understanding of genetics in general. But I would like to learn about chicken color genetics. Could anyone recommend and good website or books, anything really to get me started? I have Googled a bit but most of what I can find are more advanced and I need basics. Like I...

I live in West Virginia... thus why I think Rainbow would be pretty far for shipping something live.

Where should I buy my starter meal worms?

So i have done my research and am set up and ready to start raising meal worms... all except the meal worms themselves. I asked a fellow chicken fan where to get some and they suggested West Knoll Farm, so I messaged her and sadly she is not selling any right now. I have Googled some other...

Do you add supplements and or electrolytes?

We have wild birds too but since I have 2 goats and 5 dogs I have to have bowls everyone can use. My 77 year old father lives with me and he takes pleasure in helping. He changes all the water everyday around noon and I change again before dark. With that much fresh water I don't worry about the...

Do you add supplements and or electrolytes?

I have 2 baby pools, and two 5 gallon dog bowls around the yard and 3 waters and a small 'tub' in the run. That's for about 50 chickens and 4 ducks. They have plenty of shade and...

Do you add supplements and or electrolytes?

I was wondering if you add supplements and or electrolytes to your poultry's feed or water. If so when, why and what kind? With Summer comming I have heard a lot of people talking about electrolytes and it got me wondering how people decide what to add and when to add it. I'd love to hear from...

    Rooster Questions

Last fall I got 2 new roosters for my flock. I had roosters already but they were game bantums and I wanted a couple full size roosters for my large hens. One is a Buckeye and one a Buff Orpington. The first day both got bullied by everyone, nothing to serious but they definetly were not big in...

Made my own egg carton label

I see this post is quite old so Im not sure your still looking for suggestions about facts to add, but if you are I would add one about different color eggs taste the same. Many people think egg shell color has something to do with the taste.

What do you charge for eggs? and How do you sell?

I sell for $2 a dozen, that's pretty much the going rate around here. I sell to family and friends, craigslist and my best place to sell is on facebook. I post in local 'yardsale' groups and pretty much anywhere I can.

    Managing multiple breeding varieties?

I'd like to know others opinion on this subject as well. I have many different varietys and 99% of the time I just want the eggs for eating and selling. However I would like to know if I could say seperate the rooster and hens of one breed so they are by themselves and take the eggs for 2 weeks...

    Advice, tips and sugggestions appreciated!

I would agree with you. It stated several times though and according to the thermometer my mother got me it is a cozy 99.5. According to the one actually attached to the incubator it is 91 :/ and to my knowledge there is no way to adjust it.
