Our girls are almost 7 months old. I just looked and went out there to give them their daily treat and they still haven't came outside. Hence the term 'chicken'. lol
This is our first year having chickens and enjoy it so much and want to be sure we are doing everything right. Today was our first snow and we had an inch and a half. The girls have not came out of their coop yet and thinking they do not like the snow or is this normal during the colder months...
We have a 6 month old Barred Rock Roo and noticed a few weeks ago that on his behind he is losing feathers and has red skin on his butt. Since there were feathers coming in I just thought it may be a molt, but now it is continuing further down and now up on either side of his tail as well with a...
Have noticed that our Roo has lost his feathers just below his butt. Our hens are just fine and no feather loss. Is this something typical for a Roo this age and since he is sexually active or could something be going on with him?

Congratulations...Our 18 week old ISA Browns just started laying last Thursday. Happened the same way as yours...we walked out and there laid an egg on the ground. Next egg was on the ground as well...they finally caught onto the gold balls in the nest an now have been laying in there. Can't...
Ours do this as well, but I read that this is a normal poo about every 1 in 5 times a chicken has a poo. Someone please correct me if I am wrong so that I know the difference as well.
I'm assuming in time that they will do it on their own because it is an instinct. Last night when we went out and checked on them there were 4 of our 10 on the roosts.
