Hi Everyone
I am new to raising chicks. I live in Phoenix AZ. Day time temps are in the high 80s low 90s and the overnight lows are 60's to high 50s. I have a new coop ready for my little ones. I am planning on bringing home some new baby chicks tomorrow. My question is can I keep my babies...
The first one is a Pullet young hen but the second one looks too me that it could be a late maturing cockerel young rooster
Where did you get them from?
I don't have a picture of a 5 to 6 month cockerel but here is a picture of a 9 month old...
WOW really... both pullets! I am glad I asked. I guess hens have genetic variability too. what would a rooster look like? either now or at 5/6 mos??? Would they have the distinctive tail feathers and red comb?
Thanks for your help! I thought for sure the colorful RIR was a roo... ha:D
This should be a simple identification but I am not sure which of these RIR is a rooster.
I am assuming the RIR with the Green in the neck and in the tail is the rooster.
I just want to make sure before we send it to freezer camp
Thanks for your help!
PS they are 4 months old... sorry I forgot...

Times like these I am glad i live in a tightly packed subdivision. I have dreams of living out on a piece of land and having all sorts of livestock. However after reading all these posts about foxes, snakes, possums and coon.... I am starting to have my doubts... I am a city girl no matter how...
