I have been having an issue with one of my silkies. She had diarrhea at first, was drinking a lot of water and a boggy crop. She has stopped laying just prior to the worming. I do not feel any eggs in her abdomen. I wormed her 8 days ago with Valbazen and the diarrhea seemed to improve and...
I am a newbie with silkies at laying age although none have laid yet (26-28 wks). I have one hen who acted bizarre last week and now is very quiet, not eating or drinking much but does eat and drink a little. She is very quiet now and more docile than usual. I visually inspect her daily and...
Hi --
I am still a newbie - my hens have not laid yet and are about "that age". I have one silkie who last week started sitting more and then I noticed she was sleeping away from the other two silkies -- they used to all sleep in a pile -- but has been eating and drinking fine. They used to...
Great! I would much rather let them eat the grass first! I will use gravel because I am in FL and during our "rainy season" the drainage wouldn't hurt even though I purposefully placed the coop in an areas that does not get boggy even in the heaviest rains.
Thanks for getting back to me so...
Hi!
Newbie from Hillsborough County! Hoping to finish my coop this weekend and get two or three silkie hens very soon! Anything in particular I should be concerned about? I have read a lot of posts here and tried to incorporate as many best practices as I could into my coop design. The...
Hi!

Thanks! I don't even have the hens yet but am trying to be prepared. I have a completely fenced in yard so I hope to keep uninvited animals to a minimum but I have see a cat, possum, squirrels and, of course, birds. I appreciate the advice! Thanks!!!
I am in West Central FL and wondered how bad of a lice/mite problem there is and if anyone uses diatomaceous earth. I hear it is good for chickens and a good pest control agent. What has your experience been?
Thank you SO much! That is so nice of you! I think I found some local coop builders. I live in the Tampa Bay area and found a place in Plant City and one in Land-O-Lakes that I am going to check out. I am so excited....
Hi
I was just dissuaded of buying a prefab internet coop and would LOVE to find a local place or person to buy or build a coop for me. I only plan to have 2-4 hens, silkies and would want an elevated coop with a run. Thanks for any ideas!
Also, if there are any EASY coops that would look...
Arggh! Wow. Thank you SO much! Back to the drawing board.... sigh. I was hoping for easy -- I have never built anything like this before and my hubs is not so enthusatic about having to build one. I wish I could find a local coop builder.
