    Cleaning Incubators. Star-San?

According to http://www.beveragefactory.com/images/guides/StarSan-TECH.pdf, the active ingredients are s a blend of phosphoric acid and dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid. Dunno if there would be any residual effects. Cheers Trev

    Raising Quail without electricity

That would like as not, be the most reasonable substitute for trying to set yourself up with getting a quail to sit on it's own eggs. Some of the breeds are pretty solid at going broody at the drop of a golf ball :), so it is a definite possibility. Then it becomes a problem of managing the...

    Sportsman type incubator

Should run all the time, else the air may stratify and form layers of differing temperatures. Sameness throughout the chamber is a good thing! Should not take much of a fan to prevent that happening. Cheers Trev

    Cleaning Incubators. Star-San?

I also do some homebrewing, and have some spray on, no-rinse sanitizer solution that is used for about everything. Brand name is Star-San, and it is described as a Acid Rinse Sanitizer. Some folks are pretty paranoid about their precious beer becoming infected, and sanitize all their gear with...

Marsh Roll-X egg turner grids. Adapt for multiple egg sizes?

I have a Marsh Roll-X with the standard 89 egg turner grid in it. Been accumulating eggs for a couple days from my flock, and loading up the grid, with the turner plugged in. Basement floor level is a steady 65 degrees and 75 percent humidity, so works pretty well for storage of live eggs, and...

    Raising Quail without electricity

Long ago, folks used kerosene incubators and brooders for this sort of thing. We still have a couple sitting around here on the farm. They also rebuilt burned down buildings when the stuff got knocked over. So, there is a solution, but not without risks. might check with the usual sources for...

    Newb with a Roll-X

A quick follow-up note. Of 36 eggs, supplied by a friend from under their 'rooster included' flock, 14 eggs developed as fertile, the remainder showed no signs of development after they were cracked open. Of the 14, one pipped, then died, one, I managed to kill by cracking it. So. 12 new...

    Newb with a Roll-X

Nah. Played one at work for a while though. Doesn't everyone have a metal lathe or two around? :) I have about an hour of pleasant relaxation time in this, I guess. I like doing this stuff. If I just ordered the bottle, it'd be here some time after the hatch. being able to make stuff like...

    Newb with a Roll-X

Well, today I finally finished my water bottle. I turned a scrap of round, 1 1/4 inch delrin or nylon, to fit as a plug in the mouth of a 1 liter soda bottle. The center of the plug was initially fitted to a press in fit on some 3/8 inch diameter aluminum tubing, which turned out to be too...

    Newb with a Roll-X

I've been carting a Roll-X around for about 20 years, waiting for a decent opportunity to put it to use. Got it super cheap ($125, IIRC) and it came with one egg grid and an auto turner. Even then, it was a deal! Recently mentioned to a friend that I had the incubator and that I was looking...
