Really, I want to know what you think: why do hens b'-gack after they lay their eggs? To draw attention to themselves and away from the eggs, or for some other mysterious reason?????
So very sad over the loss of your silkie, and the illness in your flock. It sure is painful when we lose our chickens - and when we find ourselves unable to help them ... Hopefully you'll get some bit of info that you need to help them out. Good luck!

Very cool! At our old farm we had a playhouse that I thought would be fun to transform into a henhouse. What you have here looks a lot more workable than what we had! Have fun!
Just wanted to say, Missy Chicky, that I know just how much those hens mean to you--particularly now, living in a new place, and in the suburbs. Our family has moved a few times in the past two years, from rural places to our current digs in the 'burbs, and I have experienced how our chickens...
