Bantams are Smarter ...
I'm 16 years old, and hated chickens when I was first around them. Well, maybe hate is a strong word, but I definitely didn't care much for the little things. It may have had something to do with the 25 chicks my dad ordered from McMurray. It was an assortment of brown...
Meet Napoleon:
He has half of a crest, and to the best of my knowledge he is a mutt. We bought him at an auction.
This is my Easter Egger:
And the hen is my only broody to date:
These two are close to Red Pyles, but they don't breed true. I had a pure white chick and a black and...

That makes sense, but sometimes the crests do get in the way of the bird, making everything ten times harder for it. I mean, if anyone plans on just cutting off the whole crest, then yes just get a chicken that doesn't have one, but just trimming back enough so it can see doesn't ruin...
So Remi, the dog, is still really young, like 6 weeks, but I want begin as soon as possible training him so he won't be a problem later. He's not going to be a hunting dog or anything, I just want him to know that it's NOT ok to jump all over everyone and to listen to basic commands, such as...
That's exactly the reason I want EEs, brown-layers, and white-layers. I think I'll like getting all different colored eggs . Not to mention my mom is still shocked, though supportive, that I like chickens so much. She'll probably want to give the EEs medicine or something when she sees the green...
That's awesome, because I think I want the Orps more than any of the others, except for maybe the Partridge Rocks . I'm excited now, even though it'll probably be mid-August before I get them, lol.
I'm really wanting a mixed flock of layers that includes Orps, but am worried about them being bullied because of how docile they are. If it helps, these are the other breeds I'm interested in:
1.) Easter Eggers
2.) Partridge Plymouth Rock
3.) And either Danish Brown Leghorns or Anconas.
What can anyone tell me about Ancona chickens? I really want some hens for my layers because they lay white eggs and look awesome, too, but they'll be in a coop with a run. Everything I've read says they aren't too big on confinement.... So who can tell me what they know about Anconas?
I'm jealous . I want a Harlequin so bad, but my mom says that's WAY too big, so I got a lab yesterday instead. But that's ok, too
Is your puppy going to live inside? My mom thinks that's crazy too, but my Lit teacher last year had a Great Dane in her house, full grown, and he was no trouble...
I just looked at his little behind. He has pasty butt. Like a chick. Seriously though there is dried on poop around his anus, so I'm going back out there with a wet cloth and see what I can do.
And TammyTX, I hope your dog gets better . Maybe mine will, too.
A lot of the older people I've talked to say the warmer weather makes a hen want to set. I've also heard people say it's a biological thing, when a hen lays so many eggs her body tells her to set. But then I've also read online where people keep certain hens around long past their prime laying...
It seems a little runny at times, but I just fed him milk and watched him go (yes I realize if the milk is going to do anything it wouldn't have worked that fast lol ) and it was like regular dog poo, but very little of it.
The one time it seemed like water I almost had a heart attack because...
